Nothing Phone (4a) is the stronger spec-sheet choice if you want a sharper display and dedicated periscope zoom. Phone (3a) may be the better buy if you find it substantially cheaper in your market. There is no single reliable price gap: prices vary by country, configuration, stock and whether a figure is a launch price or a current listing.
Phone (3a) vs Phone (4a): key differences
| Category | Nothing Phone (4a) | Nothing Phone (3a) |
|---|---|---|
| Display | 6.78-inch AMOLED, 2720 × 1224 resolution and 120Hz, as listed in TechRadar’s 2026 review. | TechRadar describes the display as Full HD+. The official product page reviewed did not provide a full specification table. Source |
| Processor | Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, according to TechRadar’s 2026 review. | A directly comparable processor specification was not established in the sources available for this comparison. |
| Rear cameras | 50MP main, 8MP ultrawide and 50MP periscope telephoto. The review reports 3.5× optical zoom and up to 70× ultra zoom, while noting that image quality was less impressive than other aspects. | Nothing describes the Phone (3a) camera as an “Elite camera system”; that is a manufacturer marketing phrase, not a comparative camera test. Source |
| Front camera | 32MP, according to TechRadar’s 2026 review. | A directly comparable specification was not established in the sources available for this comparison. |
| Battery and charging | 5,080mAh battery, 50W wired charging and no wireless charging, according to TechRadar’s 2026 review. | Nothing’s page claims a “2-day battery”; it is not a directly comparable test result. Source |
| Software and support | TechRadar says its tested launch software was Android 16 with Nothing OS 4.1, and reports three years of OS updates and six years of security updates. | Current software version and matching support terms were not verified in the sources available for this comparison. The comparison is strongest on the Phone (4a) specifications and its display-resolution step up from the Phone (3a)’s Full HD+ panel. The available evidence does not support a complete Phone (3a) spec sheet or a controlled head-to-head test of performance, cameras or battery life.

What changes matter in everyday use?
Display: more detail on the Phone (4a)
The Phone (4a)’s 2720 × 1224 resolution is a clear increase over the Phone (3a)’s Full HD+ display description. Both are discussed as 120Hz-class experiences only where established: TechRadar lists 120Hz for the Phone (4a), but the available comparison sources do not establish the Phone (3a)’s full panel specifications. The higher resolution should matter most if you value fine text and image detail; it does not, by itself, prove better brightness, color or outdoor visibility. TechRadar’s Phone (4a) review

TechRadar lists the Phone (4a) with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 and reports that everyday multitasking, video and most games ran smoothly in its review. It also says demanding games may require compromises. Without a verified Phone (3a) processor comparison or controlled benchmark results, there is no defensible percentage by which the 4a is faster. Treat the newer chip as a generation/specification advantage, not proof that every app will feel dramatically quicker. TechRadar’s review

Cameras: the 4a adds dedicated optical zoom
The Phone (4a)’s 50MP periscope telephoto camera is its most distinct camera hardware change in the documented comparison. TechRadar reports 3.5× optical zoom and up to 70× ultra zoom. Optical zoom is the more useful distinction: it uses the telephoto camera’s optics, while very high zoom figures should not be read as a promise of equivalent detail or quality. TechRadar’s reviewer found image quality less impressive than other parts of the phone, so the zoom range alone does not establish that the 4a takes better photos in every situation. The sources do not provide a direct camera shootout against the 3a. TechRadar’s review
Battery: compare measured use, not a slogan
TechRadar lists the Phone (4a) at 5,080mAh with 50W wired charging and no wireless charging. Nothing’s Phone (3a) product page uses the phrase “2-day battery,” but neither that claim nor the 4a’s capacity establishes which phone lasts longer in comparable real-world use. No directly comparable battery test was available for this comparison. Nothing Phone (3a) product page

| Phone (3a), regional starting price | €329 | Nothing Austria collection listing; compare matching configurations. Nothing Austria collection |
The UK official-page snapshots show a £80 difference between those particular 8GB/128GB listings, but the 3a page was marked sold out and the snapshots are not a dependable current, in-stock comparison. TechRadar’s launch schedule instead put the 4a 8GB/128GB at £349 and the 3a starting price at £329; those are launch figures, not a current retail quote. Regional prices and configurations differ, so neither comparison should be treated as a universal upgrade premium.

Which phone should you choose?
- Choose Phone (4a) if the sharper listed display and dedicated periscope zoom are worth paying for, or if you specifically want its newer reported processor. Its high zoom ceiling is not a guarantee of top image quality at every magnification.
- Choose Phone (3a) if a verified, in-stock local offer makes it meaningfully cheaper and you do not need the Phone (4a)’s documented display-resolution and telephoto upgrades. Compare the same RAM and storage configuration where possible.
- Check software support before buying either if long-term updates are a deciding factor: the cited reporting gives Phone (4a) support terms, but matching current Phone (3a) terms were not established here.
How to compare the real price difference
- Choose your country and check the local Nothing store and reputable retailers; do not carry a UK or Austria price over to another market.
- Match RAM and storage, such as 8GB/128GB against 8GB/128GB, rather than comparing a base model with a higher-capacity variant.
- Confirm that both listings are in stock and note whether each price is a current offer, a manufacturer-page listing or a historical launch price.
- Compare the final price you can actually pay, including any required shipping or retailer charges, and then weigh the savings against the 4a’s documented display and zoom changes.
