If a computer does not recognize your Nothing Phone (3), first reconnect it and select File transfer under Use USB for. Then check the cable and ports, restart both devices, and inspect Windows Device Manager for an error code. Nothing’s support instructions are general phone-to-computer guidance; they do not identify a Phone (3)-specific driver download.
Start with the phone’s USB mode
A phone can charge over USB without being set to transfer files. After connecting it, open the USB notification or connection options on the phone and choose File transfer under Use USB for. Charging alone does not confirm that file transfer is enabled.

Nothing lists USB debugging as a separate troubleshooting check, not as another name for File transfer. If you need to check it, the menu wording can vary by software version:

- Tap Build number seven times, until developer mode is enabled. You may be asked to enter your device PIN.
- Return to Settings > System > Developer options and check USB debugging.
Nothing also describes reaching Build Number through Settings > About phone > Android version. If the menus differ, look for Build number under the phone’s software information. Nothing’s USB debugging instructions provide the separate procedure.

If File transfer is missing or cannot be selected
Disconnect and reconnect the cable, then check Use USB for again. If the option is still unavailable or not recognized, restart both the phone and computer and reconnect. This is Nothing’s recommended next check when USB mode selection does not work.
Rule out the cable and ports
A connection problem can come from the physical link rather than a driver. Try another data-capable USB cable and test the phone’s USB port and the computer’s port. A cable that charges the phone is not, by itself, proof that it supports data transfer. Nothing does not specify a cable brand or speed; a replacement USB-C data cable is only a diagnostic option, not a guaranteed fix.

Check Windows Device Manager for a driver error
If Windows detects a device problem, Device Manager can show whether Windows reports a driver condition. Open Device Manager, find the device marked with a warning symbol, open Properties, and read the Device status message and code.
- Code 28: Microsoft says this means drivers for the device are not installed.
- Another code: Use the message and code to identify the relevant Windows troubleshooting path; Code 28 guidance does not diagnose other errors.
Nothing says that a new-device prompt can indicate a driver issue when the computer already has the phone drivers installed, and recommends reinstalling the drivers in that situation. The cited Nothing support pages do not provide a Phone (3)-specific driver package or confirm that a separate OEM driver is required for ordinary file transfer. Choose the next check from what you observe
- The phone charges, but files are not available: Check that File transfer is selected under Use USB for.
- File transfer does not appear or cannot be selected: Restart the phone and computer, reconnect, and check the option again.
- Detection changes when you switch cables or ports: The cable or port may be involved; test the connection again with a known data-capable cable and working ports.
- Windows shows a warning symbol and code: Read the Device status. Code 28 specifically indicates a missing device driver; other codes need their own diagnosis.
- None of these checks restores the connection: Continue with Nothing’s support guidance rather than assuming a particular driver is the cause.
When to contact Nothing or consider a reset
Nothing places a factory reset after the connection checks above, not at the start of troubleshooting. Back up your data before considering a reset. If the problem persists, contact Nothing Support in the US, which lists Phone (3) and includes product-malfunction diagnostics and repair inquiries. The cited instructions do not establish a Phone (3)-specific driver download.
