1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor real-time services, Node.js is a strong fit when most work is asynchronous I/O and each event-loop callback stays short. Go is a strong fit when the service benefits from many lightweight concurrent tasks and parallel work across CPU cores. Neither is universally faster: benchmark the same service behavior, protocol, load, and resource limits before choosing. Node.js is a JavaScript runtime; Go (often searched as “Golang”) is a programming language with its own runtime and toolchain, so this is a comparison of two different development ecosystems.
How their concurrency models handle real-time traffic
Node.js: keep the event loop available
Node.js uses asynchronous, event-driven I/O to serve network applications. A small number of threads can manage many clients when callbacks complete quickly and I/O does not require blocking the event loop. The Node.js project puts the practical rule plainly: “Node.js is fast when the work associated with each client at any given time is ‘small’.” (Node.js guide to the event loop and worker pool)

For a WebSocket service, that means a message handler should avoid doing long synchronous work—such as expensive parsing or computation—before it can process other events. If a callback blocks the event loop, other clients’ events wait too. Node.js also has a worker pool for certain tasks, and JavaScript worker threads can run CPU-intensive work in parallel; for ordinary I/O-intensive work, built-in asynchronous I/O is generally the more efficient choice. (Node.js overview; Node.js worker thread documentation)
Go: schedule many goroutines
Go runs goroutines—lightweight concurrent functions—by multiplexing them across multiple operating-system threads. A goroutine can wait for I/O while the scheduler runs other work. Channels offer one way for goroutines to coordinate, but shared state still needs careful synchronization. The Go Project’s Effective Go documentation offers the guidance: “Do not communicate by sharing memory; instead, share memory by communicating.” That is a design principle, not a guarantee that a Go program cannot have data races. Go can execute independent work in parallel, but concurrency alone does not make a workload faster. The Go FAQ notes that parallelism depends on whether the underlying problem is intrinsically parallel. A service’s actual gains therefore depend on its work, available CPU resources, and implementation. (Go FAQ: concurrency)
Which fits your real-time service?
| Workload or concern | Node.js fit | Go fit | What to evaluate |
|---|---|---|---|
| I/O-heavy persistent connections | Event-driven asynchronous I/O can handle many clients with a small number of threads when callbacks stay short. | Goroutines can wait on I/O while the scheduler runs other goroutines. | Connection count, payload size, broadcast fanout, backpressure, and tail latency. |
| CPU-heavy message handling | Long synchronous callbacks can block the event loop; worker threads can offload CPU-intensive JavaScript. | Independent goroutines can run in parallel across available CPUs, depending on the work and scheduler limits. | CPU utilization, serialization cost, garbage collection, queue depth, and latency under saturation. |
| Concurrency and application state | Async callbacks help structure some I/O workflows, but shared state and process scaling still require deliberate design. | Goroutines and channels provide concurrency tools, but races and resource limits still require attention. | State ownership, synchronization, cancellation, bounded queues, and failure behavior. |
| Team and system fit | Can suit a team already using JavaScript across its stack when the required libraries fit. | Can suit a team whose skills and service requirements align with Go’s compiled-service and goroutine model. | Team experience, libraries, build and deployment needs, observability, and maintenance cost. |
The available sources do not establish a universal ecosystem winner. Existing team expertise and the specific libraries and operational requirements matter more than a blanket claim that one language is always best for real time.

What WebSocket benchmarks can—and cannot—tell you
A published study titled “Comparative Performance Benchmarking of WebSocket Libraries on Node.js and Golang” describes tests of Node.js libraries ws and socket.io and Go libraries gorilla/websocket and coder/websocket, with simulated loads from 100 to 1,000 clients. That range describes the study’s workload; it is not a production capacity limit or a general finding about how many connections either technology can support. The study abstract does not provide enough detail to report a defensible winner here. (Study abstract and details)

Even a complete result applies to the tested implementations and conditions, not automatically to every Node.js or Go service. Runtime and library versions, framework choices, process count, payloads, hardware, operating system, resource limits, and load generation can change the outcome. A benchmark that changes several of these factors at once cannot isolate a language-level advantage.

Benchmark the service you intend to run
- Match the scenario. Use the same protocol and representative connection lifetimes, payload sizes, message rates, and broadcast fanout in both implementations.
- Keep the handler behavior equivalent. Match parsing, validation, business logic, serialization, and any database or external-service calls.
- Control the environment. Record runtime and library versions, operating system, hardware, process and CPU settings, and resource limits. Keep them comparable between runs.
- Measure beyond peak throughput. Track connection capacity, CPU and memory use, queue depth, and latency—especially tail latency—as load rises and the service approaches saturation.
- Test failure and backpressure. Observe what happens when clients cannot keep up, queues fill, dependencies slow down, or connections churn. A high message rate is not useful if the service responds poorly under pressure.
- Repeat under realistic load. Use a load generator capable of sustaining the target traffic, document the method, and rerun tests so transient variation does not decide the result.
Choose the implementation that meets your latency and resource goals with manageable operational complexity. For I/O-heavy traffic and short callbacks, Node.js is a natural option; for workloads that benefit from goroutine-based concurrency and genuine parallel work, Go is worth evaluating. The benchmark—not the language label—should settle the choice for your service.
