Nocs Provisions’ first camera, the Portal AFN7, pairs a screen-free compact design with an unusual trick: it can capture the view through compatible Nocs binoculars or a monocular. Its cutout grip is distinctive, but the more consequential choices are a digital viewfinder, weather resistance and a design built around optical accessories.
How the AFN7’s binocular feature works
The AFN7 does not have a telephoto lens built into the camera. Instead, it uses a supplied NocDoc alignment tool to position the camera with compatible Nocs binoculars or monoculars, letting the camera photograph the distant view through those optics. Nocs says the AFN7 works with all of its binoculars and monoculars; compatibility with other brands is not established.

A digital viewfinder matters here: it can show the image coming through the attached optics, whereas a conventional optical finder would not show that camera-produced view. This is a way to use existing compatible optics for greater reach, not the equivalent of a dedicated telephoto lens or built-in optical zoom. The camera also has 8x digital zoom.

There is no rear screen for reviewing photos. Framing is through the digital viewfinder, while a small 0.96-inch OLED handles menu navigation. So “screen-free” means no conventional on-camera playback display, not a camera with no electronic display or preview at all.
#1 Best Overall
- 16MP Sensor: Captures detailed photos with a CMOS sensor for everyday shooting
- Optical Zoom: 5x optical zoom with a 28mm wide angle lens for flexible framing indoors or outdoors
- Full HD Video: Records 1080p video for travel clips, family moments, or simple vlogging
- Memory Support: Works with Class 10 SD, SDHC, or SDXC cards up to 512GB
- Rechargeable Battery: Included LB-012 lithium-ion battery charges in the camera over USB with the supplied adapter in about 2 hours; charge it for at least 4 hours before first use to maximize battery life
The trade-off is straightforward: the design removes the usual large screen, but users who depend on immediate playback to check a shot will not find it here. The viewfinder is also central to the AFN7’s through-binoculars feature.
Specifications and handling
| Feature | Nocs Portal AFN7 |

| Photos and video | 16MP stills; 4K UHD video at 30fps, according to Nocs |
| Lens | Fixed focus from 1m to infinity; f/2.2. Nocs’ specification table lists 22.5mm equivalent, while descriptive copy on the same page says 28mm; Digital Camera World also reports 22.5mm. |
| Weight and dimensions | 140g / 4.9 oz; 122 × 73 × 44mm, according to Nocs |
| Weather protection | IP56; resistant to dust, rain and spray, not intended for submersion |

| File transfer | USB-C direct transfer, according to Nocs |
| Battery | Sealed, non-removable 1,100mAh Li-ion, according to Nocs. Battery-life estimates conflict between Nocs and Digital Camera World. |
The body’s cutout grip is intended to make the camera easier to hold, including with gloves, while keeping it light. The IP56 rating covers dust and exposure to rain or spray; it is not a claim that the camera can be submerged.

Battery life is not settled
Battery estimates differ substantially. Nocs’ product specifications say up to about 2,250 photos or 180 minutes of continuous 4K recording. Digital Camera World’s October 2, 2026 report gives about 500 photos or 30 minutes of video. Neither figure should be treated as a verified independent test result, and the available information does not explain the difference in conditions or methodology.
Launch details and what to weigh before buying
Digital Camera World reported that Nocs announced the AFN7 on October 1, 2026, and that it was shipping from Nocs and REI by the time of its October 2 report, at a stated retail price of $179. Availability and price can change, so check the current listing before purchasing.

The camera’s 4GB included card is modest capacity, though Nocs says it supports microSD cards up to 128GB. Its 16MP stills and 4K/30fps video are manufacturer specifications, not independent image-quality findings; the sources do not establish how image quality compares with other compact cameras. The most distinctive practical reason to consider it is the ability to frame and shoot through compatible Nocs optics.
