Not quite. boAt Crest AI lets owners of selected earbuds ask questions, control playback, translate speech and handle some Google account tasks by voice. It may spare you a few phone checks while you are moving, but setup still requires a compatible Android phone, and its conversational and translation features need an internet connection.
What boAt Crest AI does
Crest AI is boAt’s voice-first feature platform for selected personal audio devices, with Google Gemini providing the AI. boAt Chief Product Officer Shyam Vedantam described Crest as “essentially our umbrella platform for these AI experiences” in a Digit.in interview published October 2, 2026 (Digit.in interview). The practical idea is to make certain tasks available through compatible earbuds rather than require you to unlock your phone for every interaction.

boAt’s support materials describe several kinds of use:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Device controls: control playback and volume by voice.
- Crest Play: search for YouTube playlists based on a mood or request.
- Ask Crest: have a generative-AI conversation for questions, brainstorming or troubleshooting.
- G-Assist: use supported Google account actions involving Gmail, Tasks and Calendar.
- Crest Translate: use the translation feature, which boAt says supports up to 25 languages.
These are different capabilities, not a promise that every phone app or task can be handled hands-free. For example, the ability to ask about Gmail depends on account setup and supported integration; it does not mean Crest AI replaces the Gmail app for all email work. See boAt’s Crest AI product page and support documentation for the current feature and eligibility details.

Which earbuds support Crest AI, and what do you need?
boAt currently names three eligible models: Nirvana Ion ANC, Airdopes Prime 701 ANC and Airdopes Prime 800D. Eligibility may also depend on a product’s serial number and pack status, so the model name alone is not a guarantee. Check the compatibility tool on boAt’s product page and its current support guidance before buying or attempting activation.
- A compatible boAt earbud model and an eligible product serial or QR code.
- An Android phone running Android 12 or later. boAt says iOS is unsupported.
- The boAt Hearables app for setup.
- A Google account for supported Google integrations such as Gmail, Tasks and Calendar.
- An internet connection for conversational AI and translation.
To activate, pair the earbuds with the Android phone, open the Hearables app, choose Explore Crest AI, then follow the prompts to verify the product serial number or scan its QR code. Once configured, a long press on the earbuds’ CTC/MFB control starts a session; a single tap stops it, according to boAt’s support instructions.
What “less screen-checking” looks like in practice
Crest AI is most relevant when a brief voice interaction can replace a short phone action: asking a question while walking, requesting a playlist, brainstorming aloud, or dictating a reply through a supported Google workflow. The value is convenience in those moments, not a phone-free lifestyle. Initial pairing and activation happen on a phone, and some actions depend on accounts and network access.

Vedantam characterized conventional voice assistants as being “generally designed around rigid, single-turn commands,” contrasting that approach with Crest’s conversational design. That is the company’s description of its product, not an independent assessment of response quality or reliability. A conversational interface can make a request feel more natural, but it does not remove the need to check important messages, calendar details or AI-generated answers on screen.
Important limits: connectivity, language and privacy
Internet dependence
boAt says conversational features and translation require an internet connection. Its FAQ says ordinary music playback can continue offline, while smart features may stop working when connectivity is unavailable. This distinction matters on commutes or trips with weak data coverage: the earbuds may still play downloaded or otherwise available music, but you should not count on cloud-based questions or translation.
Translation is not the same as multilingual voice control
boAt advertises Crest Translate for up to 25 languages. That figure applies to the translation feature; it does not establish that general commands or conversations work equally well in all those languages. In the October 2, 2026 Digit.in interview, Vedantam said command input was primarily English at that time and that multilingual speech interaction was being developed. Treat the translation language count and broader voice-command support as separate claims, and check boAt’s current feature details for changes.
Rank #2
- Vivid display: Enjoy crystal clear images on the large 5.10 cm (2.01") HD display, which offers immersive visuals and easy navigation.
- SOS emergencies: Ensure your safety with the Emergency SOS feature, which provides a quick and efficient way to seek help in times of need.
- Turn-by-Turn Navigation: Navigate seamlessly through your world with step-by-step navigation right on your wrist, so you stay on the right path wherever you go.
- QR Code Hub: Experience convenience with the QR Code Hub, which provides quick access to various functionalities and enhances your overall user experience.
- 700+ active modes: Increase your fitness routine with a wide range of 700+ active modes so you have a workout tailored to every fitness goal and preference.
Privacy claims are from the company
Vedantam said conversations are encrypted and sent to a cloud backend rather than stored on the earbuds. boAt’s product page says its AI features work without retaining personal data. These are company statements, not independent privacy audits. Because the conversational service uses cloud processing, review boAt’s current privacy information and the relevant Google account permissions before connecting sensitive accounts.
Choose the earbuds for more than their AI features
Crest AI does not improve an earbud’s sound quality. boAt’s FAQ says buyers should assess the usual factors—drivers, tuning, fit and seal—separately. Battery, active noise cancellation (ANC), call performance, multipoint connectivity and comfort will shape day-to-day value just as much as voice features.
| Model | What the cited product coverage reports | What to verify before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Nirvana Ion ANC | Up to 120 hours of total playback, a boAt product claim reported by Digit.in in 2026; this is not an independent test result. | Exact Crest AI eligibility, fit, ANC, call quality, current price and live listing details. |
| Airdopes Prime 701 ANC | Not stated in the cited Digit.in product coverage. | Exact Crest AI eligibility, battery claim, fit, ANC, call quality and current listing details. |
| Airdopes Prime 800D | Up to 45 hours of total playback, a boAt product claim reported by Digit.in in 2026; this is not an independent test result. | Exact Crest AI eligibility, fit, ANC, call quality, current price and live listing details. |
The hours above are attributed maximum total-playback claims, not guarantees of how long every buyer will get in daily use. Digit.in’s October 6, 2026 Brand Story discusses Nirvana Ion ANC and Airdopes Prime 800D; it is promotional coverage, not hands-on independent testing (Digit.in product coverage). Check current boAt and retailer listings for specifications, stock and price before purchasing.
Is Crest AI worth considering?
It may be useful if you already use Android, want occasional hands-free access to supported tasks, and are comfortable with cloud-connected AI features. It is a poor fit if you use an iPhone, expect all voice functions to work offline, need broad multilingual command support, or want an earbud that replaces your phone.
Make the purchase decision in this order: confirm the exact model’s Crest AI eligibility, decide whether its ordinary audio and comfort features suit you, then treat AI as an added convenience. The Crest AI Pack is a separate digital service rather than an earbud model; its price and usage terms can change, so consult boAt’s current product page for details rather than assuming a launch offer still applies.
