Leonida is reportedly about twice the size of GTA V’s map. That comparison comes from Rockstar staff statements relayed in media coverage; Rockstar has not published an official area in square kilometres or square miles. Fan-made map estimates exist, but they vary with the reconstruction and what area is counted.
How much bigger is the GTA 6 map?
Rob Nelson, head of development at Rockstar North, was reported by PC Gamer on August 27, 2026, as describing Leonida as twice the size of GTA V’s map. Aaron Garbut, Rockstar North co-studio head, was also reported as saying in connection with Game Informer’s cover story that Leonida is Rockstar’s biggest map “by some degree” and about twice GTA V’s size. These are developer comparisons reported in coverage, not published survey measurements. PC Gamer’s report and The Leonida Map’s summary relay the statements.

The comparison is about the whole game worlds. It should not be confused with the separate reported comparison between Vice City and Los Santos.
How many square kilometres is Leonida?
Rockstar has not supplied an official square-kilometre or square-mile figure in the sources available. A ratio such as “twice GTA V” cannot be converted into one reliable area without defining the GTA V baseline and the boundaries being measured—for example, whether water is included. Mapheist’s comparison explains why different mapping choices produce different totals.

Community reconstructions illustrate the uncertainty rather than settle it. Mapheist summarized a September 2026 YANIS community map, version 16, as estimating 85.6 km² of Leonida land; it also summarized an earlier estimate of roughly 125 km². Those are city-level comparisons, not another way of stating the size of all Leonida. The figures were reported by PC Gamer from TGG’s account of a Rockstar preview, so they should be attributed as reported developer statements rather than treated as independently measured areas. PC Gamer

Rockstar’s official game page names six regions: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga State Park. The list shows that the setting extends well beyond the central city, but it is not a complete scaled map and does not establish the playable world’s area or boundary. Rockstar Games’ GTA VI page

What’s the most reliable way to describe the map size?
- For the broad comparison, say Leonida is reportedly about twice the size of GTA V’s map, and attribute the comparison to Rockstar staff as relayed in coverage.
- Do not give a precise official km² or square-mile total: none is established by the cited sources.
- If mentioning fan estimates, identify them as community measurements and name the map version or source; land-only boundaries and different reconstructions can change the result.
- Keep the whole-world comparison separate from the Vice City–Los Santos city comparison.
GTA VI platforms and release information
Rockstar lists GTA VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two Interactive’s June 24, 2026 announcement gave a planned release date of November 19, 2026 and said the boxed physical version would be available from November 12 and contain a download code inside the box.
