Most attempts can be run through in about five minutes, but that is a target rather than a guarantee. Compatibility checks or a persistent fault can take considerably longer.
Menu labels differ by navigation equipment, model year and infotainment system. The steps below use Nissan’s general U.S. pairing guidance. If your screens do not match, use the owner’s manual for your exact vehicle.

Park first, then check the phone
Use the infotainment screen only while the vehicle is safely parked. Then start with the phone, because a phone with Bluetooth switched off will not pair no matter what the car is doing.
- On the phone, open the Bluetooth settings and confirm Bluetooth is on.
- Keep the phone unlocked and close to the vehicle during pairing.
- If the phone has been paired before, note whether it appears in the vehicle’s device list. A stale entry can block a clean re-pairing, so you may need to remove that one entry and start again.
The five-minute fix
- Start pairing from the vehicle. Use the route that matches your equipment (see the table below). With navigation, press the Phone button, then Connect, then Connect New Device. Without navigation, press Enter/Setting, then Bluetooth, then Add Phone.
- Select the Nissan entry on the phone. When your phone’s Bluetooth list shows MY-CAR, select it. Nissan’s general guide uses this name in its pairing steps; if your vehicle shows a different name, match it to the vehicle you are sitting in.
- Match the PIN on both screens. Confirm that the code on the phone matches the code shown on the vehicle display before you accept it. Do not accept a code that does not match.
- Confirm any remaining prompts. Allow the phone access requests the vehicle asks for, such as contacts or phone audio, if you want those features.
- Test the connection. Make a short call or play a track to confirm audio routes through the car.
If pairing fails at any step, stop and move to the checks below rather than repeating the same steps several times.

Which pairing route your Nissan uses
Nissan’s general U.S. guidance describes two routes, depending on whether the vehicle has navigation. The labels below come from that guidance and may not appear exactly as written on your screen.

If neither set of labels appears on your screen, your system is laid out differently. Look up the Bluetooth or phone section in the owner’s manual for your model year rather than guessing through menus.

If the phone still won’t connect
A 2024 NissanConnect navigation manual lists the following as possible causes of a connection failure. These are the items to check in turn; the list is not a guaranteed diagnosis for every Nissan.
Bluetooth is off on the vehicle or the phone
Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on the infotainment system and on the phone. This is the most common cause of a missing device and the quickest to rule out.

Registration is incomplete
If the pairing sequence was interrupted, the phone may appear but never finish connecting. Register the phone again from the start of the pairing route above.
The phone is not compatible
Some phones or operating system versions may not work with a given Nissan system. Check compatibility with Nissan’s checker before spending more time on re-registration (see the compatibility section below).

The phone battery is low
A low battery can stop a connection from completing. Charge the phone, then try again. Choose a charging cable that suits your phone and the charging port in your vehicle; a cable will not fix a pairing or compatibility problem.

The phone is placed where it blocks the wireless signal
Phones sitting in a pocket, under a bag, or in a holder that covers the antenna area can disrupt the wireless link. Move the phone to a clear spot and register again.

Check compatibility for your exact vehicle
Compatibility depends on the specific combination of vehicle and phone, so no general claim can confirm that your phone will work. Nissan’s compatibility checker asks for the vehicle type, model, model year, whether the vehicle has navigation, and the device information. Enter your own details rather than relying on another owner’s result.
Nissan’s official guidance also tells owners to check compatibility information, which is why a phone that is listed as compatible is the point at which to escalate.
When to escalate
Escalate once the phone is listed as compatible and careful re-registration still fails. At that point:
- Re-read the Bluetooth section of the owner’s manual for your exact model year and infotainment system.
- Contact Nissan support through the official support pages, or visit a Nissan dealer.
Persistent faults on a specific vehicle are usually better handled by the dealer, who can check the system rather than working from general steps.
What this guide does not cover
These steps reflect Nissan’s general U.S. pairing guidance and a 2024 NissanConnect navigation manual. They do not cover every Nissan model, every infotainment generation, or non-U.S. market equipment. The official feature description for NissanConnect states that the system supports up to five phones, with one in use at a time; if your list is full, an unused entry may be using a slot, but check your manual before removing anything.
