Is the revised Switch 2 coming to the U.S.?
There is no U.S. availability confirmation in Nintendo’s announcement. The company describes the change as a rolling replacement of selected products in territories where Nintendo of Europe operates. That establishes a European rollout, not a U.S. launch, price, or retailer listing. Check for a U.S.-specific Nintendo announcement before treating the revision as headed to American stores. What Nintendo has announced for Europe
Nintendo estimates that the revised Switch 2 console will be available through Nintendo Store in Europe from October 2026. The revised console is to include Joy-Con 2 controllers with user-replaceable batteries. Separate revised Joy-Con 2 controllers and a revised Switch 2 Pro Controller are estimated for winter 2026. These are estimates, not guaranteed dates: Nintendo says timing may vary by country and may change due to manufacturing, distribution, or other factors. The announcement does not establish when other European retailers will stock the products.

Nintendo lists a slightly smaller battery and higher weight for the revised console. It says there is no difference in functionality between current products and revised products containing user-replaceable batteries.

The figures are Nintendo’s published specifications, not independent battery-life or performance test results. Capacity alone does not establish how long a console will run between charges.
How to identify revised original Joy-Con
Nintendo provides checks for its revised original Joy-Con controllers. These identifiers apply to original Joy-Con, not Joy-Con 2. A paired controller’s serial number can be checked at System Settings; model markings are also shown in the packaging’s contents section.

What the revision means for Switch 2 compatibility
Nintendo of America says original Switch Joy-Con can pair wirelessly with Switch 2, but they cannot attach to the Switch 2 console. They must be charged using an original Switch console or a compatible accessory. The revision announcement does not say that older controllers gain new compatibility. Nintendo also lists some original Switch accessories, including the older Joy-Con charging grip and Joy-Con AA battery pack, as incompatible with Joy-Con 2. Will replacement battery kits be available?
Nintendo says battery replacement kits for each revised product will be sold through Nintendo Store in Europe in the future. It has not specified a date in the announcement, and the announcement does not confirm U.S. kit availability.
