Choose the right account before entering the code, and make sure the card’s country matches that account’s eShop country: Nintendo says funds cannot be transferred between accounts, and country-specific cards cannot be swapped for cards from another region.
How a Nintendo eShop gift card works
The card provides prepaid value. Redeeming its code adds the funds to one Nintendo Account; it does not create a balance shared by everyone using the console. Nintendo’s U.S. terms say that after redemption the balance is associated with the account used, is non-transferable, and the code has no remaining balance. Nintendo’s North American instructions cover Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The account selected during redemption receives the balance. Nintendo Support: How to redeem a Nintendo eShop Card
Check the country before buying or redeeming
Nintendo eShop Cards are country-specific. Nintendo says a card can be redeemed only on systems and accounts set to the same country, and it will not exchange a foreign-region card for a local one. Nintendo’s U.S. card terms specify that the U.S. card is valid only with U.S. accounts. Check the card’s stated country, the retailer’s listing, and the recipient’s Nintendo Account country before purchase. Nintendo Support: eShop Card country guidance U.S. card terms

- eCash - Nintendo eShop Gift Card $100
The eShop country follows the country setting on the Nintendo Account. Changing that setting does not carry the account’s eShop balance to the new country; Nintendo says remaining funds must be spent before changing the country. Nintendo Support: Changing the country on a Nintendo Account
What to do if the balance is missing
- Check which Nintendo Account was selected when the code was redeemed.
- Check the balance for each account on the console and on the Nintendo Account website.
- Review the account’s online transaction history for the redemption or subsequent spending. Nintendo says online transaction history can show activity up to two years back.
Funds are not shared or transferable between different Nintendo Accounts, so a balance appearing on one account will not appear on another. Nintendo Support: Checking Nintendo eShop balance and transaction history

Expiration, fees, refunds, and lost codes
Nintendo’s U.S. card terms state: “Code balance does not expire, and there are no fees associated with the code.” Those same U.S. terms say the balance cannot be redeemed for cash and is non-refundable unless required by law. Nintendo or the retailer will not replace a lost or stolen code. These terms apply to the U.S. card; check the local card terms for other markets. Other ways to add funds—and regional differences
Payment options and eligibility vary by country. In the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, Nintendo lists credit cards and PayPal as funding methods, subject to account-country and eligibility rules. A credit card must have been issued in the same country as the eShop. PayPal is available only to Nintendo Account owners in those three countries who are at least 18. Japan has separate instructions for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo lists credit card, PayPal, and Nintendo prepaid card numbers for adding funds on the console. Foreign-issued credit cards, foreign PayPal accounts, and prepaid cards sold overseas cannot be used in the Japan eShop. On a phone or computer, Nintendo Japan allows prepaid-card balance additions but not credit card or PayPal funding. These rules are specific to Japan and should not be assumed to apply elsewhere. Which funding method should you choose?
A gift card can be convenient when you want to give prepaid value or avoid entering a payment card, but only buy one intended for the recipient’s account country. For your own account, compare payment eligibility and where each method can be used; the available methods differ by market and, in Japan, by whether you add funds on console or on a phone or computer. Nintendo’s documented regional instructions for North America and Japan do not establish rules for every country, so readers elsewhere should check their local Nintendo support and card terms.
