On September 22, 2026, it said two separate ownership agreements for the studio had fallen through and that it would begin consulting employees on a proposed closure while continuing to explore other options. By October 5, employees were reportedly posting about redundancies or departures, but no verified total or completed shutdown has been established.
Is Ninja Theory closing?
Not yet, according to the latest official statement in the available reporting. Xbox said it would begin employee consultation on a proposed closure, not that the studio had already shut down. It also said it was still exploring other paths forward. The distinction matters: consultation is an ongoing process, and its outcome is not confirmed.

What happens to Senua?
Xbox announced Senua in June 2026, describing it as the next Ninja Theory game after Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II and giving it a 2027 target. The announcement predates the closure consultation and staff reports, so it does not establish the project’s current development status, whether the target will hold, or whether the game has been cancelled.

The September update then said Ninja Theory’s two agreements had fallen through.
