Tom’s Guide reported the iPad mini (A17 Pro) at $499 at Amazon on October 5, 2026, down from $599; Macworld listed the same U.S. price on October 6. What the reported Prime Day deal includes
The deal is for the 128GB Wi‑Fi iPad mini 7, which Apple names iPad mini (A17 Pro). Tom’s Guide’s October 5, 2026 report lists it at $499 at Amazon, $100 below its stated $599 former price. Macworld’s October 6 Prime Day guide also lists the U.S. 128GB model at $499. These are dated reports, not a guarantee of today’s price, stock, Prime eligibility or promotion end time.

What you get from the iPad mini
Apple’s iPad mini (A17 Pro) specifications list an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display, A17 Pro chip and 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage options. Apple rates battery life at up to 10 hours of Wi‑Fi web browsing or video playback; that is Apple’s estimate, not an independent test result. The tablet supports Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB‑C), useful if you plan to annotate documents, draw or take handwritten notes. Pencil is a separate purchase.

That combination suits a dedicated small tablet: it gives you more room than a phone for reading, streaming, browsing or sketching, without asking you to replace your existing handset. It is not a phone replacement, and its value depends on whether you actually want a second device.
How that differs from iPhone Duo
Apple announced iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026, describing it as its first foldable iPhone. Apple lists a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display, and says it uses the A20 Pro chip. Apple’s announced schedule sets preorders for October 16, 2026, with availability beginning October 23; both dates are still in the future as of October 7, 2026.

The price comparison is not like-for-like. If you already own a good phone, the mini is an additional device at the reported sale price. If you need to replace your phone, Duo is a phone-and-larger-screen purchase, and its total cost should be weighed against the handset you would otherwise buy. Check Apple’s current store price before using the $2,000 figure to make a decision; that number is Tom’s Guide’s report, not a price stated in Apple’s announcement.
Who should choose the mini—and who should wait for Duo
The iPad mini makes sense if
- You already have a phone you intend to keep and want a separate, more spacious screen.
- You value a compact tablet for reading, video, browsing or games, rather than needing one device to handle phone calls and tablet-style use.
- You will use the Pencil support for notes, markup or drawing, and are comfortable buying the Pencil separately.
Consider Duo instead if
- You are shopping for a phone replacement and specifically want a screen that opens larger when needed.
- You prefer carrying one device rather than adding a tablet to the phone you already own.
- You are willing to wait for its announced October launch and confirm its official price and availability before deciding.
Apple CEO John Ternus called Duo “the most transformational change to iPhone since the original” in Apple’s September 9 announcement. That is Apple’s promotional positioning, not an independent assessment of how useful the foldable design will be in everyday use.

One reason not to rush
Macworld reported that a new iPad mini could arrive later in October, potentially with an OLED display and newer processor. Apple has not announced that refresh or confirmed its timing, so treat it as unconfirmed reporting—not a reason to assume a new model is imminent. If you can wait, compare the actual announcement and price of any replacement with the live deal before buying.

Check the deal before checkout
- Open the current Amazon listing for the 128GB iPad mini (A17 Pro) and confirm the model, storage, seller and displayed price.

- Compare the current iPhone Duo price and availability in Apple’s store if you are choosing between a tablet add-on and a phone replacement.
- If you want stylus input, confirm you are budgeting separately for a supported Apple Pencil rather than assuming one is included.
