What the R6700AX offers

The exact model is the NETGEAR Nighthawk R6700AX, a four-stream, dual-band Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) router in the AX1800 class. NETGEAR rates its bands at up to 600 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and up to 1,200 Mbps on 5 GHz. AX1800 is the combined theoretical wireless link-rate class, not a promise of 1.8 Gbps internet service or real-world throughput. Actual results depend on the internet plan, client devices, distance, interference and home layout. The router is also compatible with 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi generations. See NETGEAR’s router product information.

NETGEAR Nighthawk WiFi 6 Router R6700AX, Up to 1,500 sq ft, 1.8 Gbps | Reliable Performance, Easy Set Up, 20 devices, 4× Gigabit Port, Dual Band, AX1800
  • NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
  • WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
  • SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
  • READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
  • COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.

Coverage and device guidance

NETGEAR recommends the R6700AX for small-to-medium homes and rates it for coverage up to 1,500 square feet and 20 or more connected devices. These are manufacturer guidance figures, not guaranteed results: NETGEAR notes that coverage and throughput vary with network traffic, construction and environmental conditions. A larger or multi-level home, or one with weak spots, may need a different placement or a mesh system rather than a single router.

Ports and security features

The router has one Gigabit Ethernet WAN port and four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports. That is suitable for wired connections up to 1,000 Mbps at the port level; buyers who need 2.5-Gigabit or faster wired networking should compare models with faster ports. The listed features include WPA3, VPN access and automatic firmware updates.

Armor requires a paid subscription after its introductory period, and current trial length, pricing and regional availability are not established here. Does it support Wi-Fi 6E or 6 GHz?

No. The R6700AX is a dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router operating on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz; it does not provide Wi-Fi 6E or a 6 GHz band. Choose a tri-band Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 router if access to 6 GHz is a requirement, and confirm that your client devices support that band.

Rank #3
NETGEAR 4-Stream WiFi 6 Router (R6700AX) – Security Features, AX1800 Wireless Speed (Up to 1.8 Gbps), Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft., 20 Devices

Who is this deal a fit for?

  • Consider it if you need a straightforward dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router for a small-to-medium home, your devices do not require 6 GHz, and Gigabit Ethernet is sufficient.
  • Compare alternatives if you need 6 GHz, multi-gig wired ports, broader or more consistent coverage, or a mesh setup. Also account for any ongoing subscription cost for optional security or parental-control services.
  • Judge the discount against the live price rather than relying on the report’s reference price or historical low, since neither establishes what the listing costs now.
