Choose Netflix for the titles you want there, HBO Max for its HBO and Warner Bros. programming, or Disney+ for the brands and features that suit your household. Then compare the price of the tier you would actually use—not just the cheapest advertised plan. The prices below are a U.S. monthly snapshot; check the service’s current checkout page because prices and plan availability can change.
Netflix vs. HBO Max vs. Disney+: at a glance
| Service | U.S. monthly plans | What the plans distinguish |
|---|---|---|
| Netflix | Standard with ads: $8.99 Standard: $19.99 Premium: $26.99 |
Ads, picture quality, simultaneous devices, downloads, and extra-member options vary by tier. Netflix lists its current U.S. plans in its plan and pricing help page. |
| HBO Max | Basic with Ads: $10.99 Standard: $18.49 Premium: $22.99 |
Plans differ in ads, streams, downloads, live sports, and picture and audio quality. The prices are from Tom’s Guide’s 2026 pricing report; Max’s official plan page displays older prices, so confirm the current amount at checkout. |
| Disney+ | With Ads: $12.49 Premium: $21.49 |
Premium adds features including downloads and higher picture and audio quality, subject to device, content, and network limits. Disney lists its U.S. plans and prices on its plans page. |
These are monthly U.S. prices, not a comparison of annual commitments, taxes, or third-party billing offers. A lower entry price may not be the best deal if you need ad-free viewing, more simultaneous streams, downloads, or higher-resolution video.

How to decide which service is worth paying for
Start with the shows, films, and sports you actually want
Make a short list of titles, genres, or programming brands your household intends to watch. HBO Max groups programming from HBO, Max Originals, Warner Bros., DC, Cartoon Network, Discovery, and related brands; see its catalog overview. Disney+ lists its standalone plan features on its plans page. Netflix and Disney+ also depend on what is currently in their catalogs. Titles can rotate, so check that a must-watch is available in your U.S. catalog before subscribing.
Compare the tier you would choose, not just the cheapest price
Decide first whether ads are acceptable. Then check what your household needs for streams, picture quality, audio, and downloads. Netflix Standard supports two simultaneous devices and 1080p, while Premium supports four and 4K/HDR; other features, including downloads and extra-member allowances, also vary by tier, as listed in its plan information. HBO Max Basic with Ads supports two streams at 1080p; Standard adds downloads and select live sports; Premium supports four streams and adds 4K and select Dolby Atmos, with feature and programming limits described on Max’s plan page. Disney+ Premium includes up to 4K UHD/HDR, Dolby Atmos, and downloads on up to 10 devices, subject to device, content, and network limitations. Disney notes that some live or linear programming and promotional content may still have ads on Premium.

Factor in who watches at home
Simultaneous-stream limits matter when different people watch on different devices at the same time. Compare the stream allowance on the tier you are considering with your household’s habits. If someone outside the household needs access, check the service’s current extra-member and account terms rather than assuming every plan handles it the same way.
When Netflix may be worth paying for
Netflix is a strong candidate when its current catalog contains the specific shows or films your household wants and its plan features fit your viewing setup. Its three U.S. monthly tiers create a choice between a lower-priced ad-supported plan and two ad-free plans. Standard supports two simultaneous devices at 1080p; Premium supports four at 4K/HDR, with tier-specific download and extra-member options. Check the Netflix plan details before choosing, since features are not identical across tiers.

When HBO Max may be worth the price
HBO Max may be the better fit if you specifically want its HBO, Warner Bros., DC, and related programming, or if the plan’s select live sports are useful to you. Its tiers also differ in streams, downloads, resolution, and audio. The current U.S. monthly prices reported in 2026 are $10.99 for Basic with Ads, $18.49 for Standard, and $22.99 for Premium, according to Tom’s Guide. Max’s official help page still shows earlier prices of $9.99, $16.99, and $20.99. Because those sources conflict, verify the price and included plan at live checkout before subscribing.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhen Disney+ may be worth paying for
Disney+ makes sense when the titles and programming available there are the ones your household will watch, and its standalone tiers match your tolerance for ads and need for downloads or higher-quality video and audio. The U.S. monthly prices listed for 2026 are $12.49 for With Ads and $21.49 for Premium on the Disney+ plans page, marked September 23, 2026. Premium features depend on the device, connection, and content; some live or linear and promotional programming may still include ads.

Should you get the Disney+, Hulu, and HBO Max bundle?
Compare the Disney+, Hulu, and HBO Max bundle with separate subscriptions only if your household also wants Hulu. The bundle is described as discounted compared with buying the services separately, but variants include different tiers and ad experiences. Check exactly which versions are included and what they cost before deciding. The bundle does not include Netflix and is not automatically better value for a household that will not use all the included services.
