We are having technical difficulties and are actively working on a fix. Please try again in a few minutes,” first try signing in with your account password instead of a sign-in link or code. If that does not work, Netflix advises trying again later. The message is documented in Netflix’s sign-in and sign-up link guidance; it does not, by itself, identify a server, account, device, or network fault.
Start by identifying when the message appears
Netflix has separate instructions for sign-in problems, connection errors, and an app that crashes or closes. Before troubleshooting, note what you were doing when the message appeared and whether Netflix showed an error code.

- Entering a sign-in link or code: follow the steps for the exact technical-difficulties wording below.
- Signing in with a password: check whether the message instead says “Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again later.” Netflix treats that as a separate sign-in issue.
- Opening the app or playing a title: check whether Netflix reports a connection problem or the app closes. Use the corresponding connection or device instructions rather than assuming the sign-in fix applies.
For the right official path, record your device, whether you are using the app or a browser, and any error code. Netflix’s Help Center lets you search by error code or message and offers a contact-support route.
Fix the exact technical-difficulties sign-in message
Netflix documents the wording “Something went wrong We are having technical difficulties and are actively working on a fix. Please try again in a few minutes” in its guidance for sign-in or sign-up links and codes. Netflix says there was a problem connecting to the account and recommends this order:
#1 Best Overall
- HD streaming made simple: With America’s number 1 TV streaming platform,* exploring popular apps—plus tons of free movies, shows, and live TV—is as easy as it is fun. *Based on hours streamed—Hypothesis Group
- Compact without compromises: The sleek design of Roku Streaming Stick won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
- Try signing in with your Netflix account password instead of using the link or code.
- If password sign-in does not work, try signing in again later.
Those are Netflix’s stated steps for this message. Its guidance does not establish a more specific cause, so the wording alone is not evidence of an account lock, device defect, or service outage. See Netflix’s help for sign-in links and codes.
If the sign-in wording is similar but not the same
Netflix has a separate page for “Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again later.” Do not treat that message as interchangeable with the technical-difficulties wording: Netflix says this separate sign-in error is common and often resolves on its own.

If that is the message on your screen, Netflix’s listed steps include restarting your device, clearing Netflix cookies in a web browser (which signs you out), and restarting your home network. Follow the instructions for your device or browser on Netflix’s page for this sign-in error, and check again after each step.

If Netflix reports a connection problem
Use this branch when Netflix reports that it is unable to connect, or when other apps on the same device also cannot connect. Netflix says a related connection error can involve device data that needs refreshing or a network issue; that is a separate troubleshooting context, not a confirmed explanation for the sign-in message.

- If the problem continues, restart your home network by following Netflix’s sequence for your setup.
- If the connection problem persists, contact your internet service provider about a possible network issue.
Use Netflix’s connection-error instructions for the steps that apply to your device and network equipment.
If Netflix keeps failing on one device
If other apps work but Netflix continues to fail on a single device, follow Netflix’s instructions for that device, including its restart or sign-out steps where applicable. Netflix says you may need to watch on a different device if those steps do not resolve an app crash or closing problem. That is a conditional fallback, not a recommendation to buy new hardware or proof that the device caused the original sign-in message. See Netflix’s app crash and close guidance.

When to contact support
If the relevant sign-in, connection, or device steps do not help, use the Netflix Help Center to search the exact message or error code and contact Netflix support. Include where the message appears, the device and app or browser in use, what you tried, and whether other apps can connect. If the issue is limited to one device after Netflix’s steps, contacting the device maker is also an option.
