How many Netflix jobs could be affected?

Which Netflix teams could be affected?
The Los Angeles Times reported that creative teams, including employees working on features, could be affected. That detail comes from a source cited by the paper, not a Netflix confirmation. The full list of departments, roles, and locations is unknown; Puck’s report did not establish a complete scope.

How this compares with Netflix’s 2022 layoffs
The Los Angeles Times said the proposed cuts could be Netflix’s largest since 2022. In its retrospective, the paper reported that Netflix cut 150 jobs in May 2022 and another 300 the following month. The possible 2026 reduction remains unconfirmed, so the comparison is between those completed cuts and a reported plan.

What is known about the business context—and what is not
At Bloomberg’s 2026 Screentime event, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said: “Overall we’re not growing as fast as I want us to, and we’re working on making that move faster.” The Los Angeles Times also reported that viewing hours rose about 2% in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, while content spending climbed over the same broad period. Those details provide context, but the reports do not establish either as Netflix’s stated reason for the proposed cuts.
The Times noted that Netflix describes engagement in more than one way, including the role of live programming in subscription sign-ups. Viewing hours alone therefore do not establish the company’s full performance rationale, much less the motive for a restructuring.
