To get Netflix on DISH, connect a supported receiver to the internet, open Netflix from the receiver’s Apps menu, and sign in with your Netflix account. Common routes are Menu > Apps, the remote’s blue Apps button, or Channel 302. The exact path depends on the receiver, and not every DISH model supports the app.
How do you open Netflix on a DISH receiver?
- Confirm the receiver is connected to the internet. DISH says its Netflix service requires an internet-connected Hopper or Wally.
- Press Menu, choose Apps, highlight Netflix, and press OK. Depending on the receiver, you may instead press the remote’s blue Apps button or tune to Channel 302. Menu names and shortcuts can vary by model.
- Choose Sign In and enter the email address and password for your Netflix account. If you do not have a membership, follow Netflix’s on-screen sign-up prompts or create one online.
- Select a Netflix profile and start watching.
On Hopper receivers, DISH also documents pressing Menu or pressing Home twice, then selecting Netflix, signing in, and choosing a profile. DISH’s Hopper instructions describe that route.

Which DISH receivers support Netflix?
Check the exact receiver model before assuming the app should appear. DISH’s general Hopper support page lists Hopper 3, Hopper with Sling, Hopper Duo, Wally, and linked Joey receivers, but excludes Wireless Joey. See DISH’s Netflix receiver instructions for its general app guidance.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDISH publishes a separate list for Netflix live events. That list is specific to live-event support and should not be treated as a universal list for ordinary Netflix app access.
#1 Best Overall
- HD/DVR RECEIVER
| DISH receiver model | Netflix live-event support listed by DISH |
|---|---|
| Hopper 3, Hopper Duo, Hopper Plus, Wireless Joey 4, Joey 4, Joey 3, 4K Joey, Wally | Fully supported |
| Hopper with Sling, Joey 1, Joey 2, Wireless Joey 1 | No live TV/no-ad version |
| Hopper 1, Super Joey | No Netflix app |
This distinction comes from DISH’s Netflix live-event support page; it does not establish ordinary app availability for every model in each category. If your model is not covered by DISH’s general instructions, confirm app access with DISH.
Netflix is missing from the Apps menu: what should you check?
- Identify the receiver model. DISH’s live-event guidance says to press Home twice and check Model Name. Do not assume all Hopper or Joey versions have the same app support.
- Check the model against the right DISH support information. The general Netflix instructions and live-event compatibility list answer different questions.
- Verify the internet connection. DISH requires an internet-connected Hopper or Wally for its Netflix service.
- If the model is supported but the app still does not appear, contact DISH for model-specific assistance rather than buying equipment based only on the missing icon.
Can Netflix be billed through a DISH package?
Opening Netflix on a DISH receiver and paying for Netflix through a DISH package are separate matters. If you have an eligible package, Netflix says you can activate through an email or SMS link, an activation banner in your DISH account summary, or prompts in the Netflix app on the receiver. You can link an existing Netflix account or create a new one. Eligibility and package terms depend on your DISH offer; check with DISH rather than assuming a package includes Netflix.
DISH says you do not need to cancel an existing Netflix account before linking it. Once linking is complete, billing through the previous payment method stops, according to DISH. Netflix separately cautions that customers billed through Apple must cancel through Apple after linking, or Apple may continue charging them. Check the account’s billing status with DISH and the payment provider. See Netflix’s DISH activation and billing guidance and DISH’s support information.

Does Netflix on DISH use internet data?
Yes. Netflix streaming uses the receiver’s internet connection. Netflix says that for satellite customers, Netflix viewing counts toward the monthly broadband quota. Starting the app from the DISH receiver does not make the stream part of ordinary satellite TV service.
