If your Nest Doorbell’s sound has not changed, first identify which sound you mean: the wired chime inside your home, the length of a digital chime’s ring, or a visitor announcement on a Google speaker or display. Google Home has separate controls for these, and its support guidance does not confirm that every Nest Doorbell supports a selectable custom indoor ringtone.
First identify which sound is not changing
“Ringtone” can refer to different alerts that do not share one setting. A wired indoor chime is controlled separately from a speaker or display announcement. Digital-chime ring length is another setting, and Quiet Time can mute indoor alerts even when the configuration looks correct.

Check the doorbell’s Google Home chime controls
Google Home’s layout can vary. Open the doorbell from its camera/player view and look under Settings > Chime, or find it through All devices > [your doorbell] > device controls/settings > Doorbell. Quiet Time can make a working setup seem broken: it prevents the indoor chime and visitor announcements from sounding while active, although phone notifications may continue. Google describes the behavior this way: “Your doorbell creates its usual doorbell sound outside, but the chime inside your home won’t ring.” End Quiet Time, then test the sound again. Adjust ring length only for a supported wired digital chime
If the indoor chime is electronic and plays a melody, check its digital-chime ring-length setting in Google Home. Google says this duration control is for supported wired Nest Doorbells; battery-powered doorbells cannot use a digital chime. It changes how long the digital chime rings, not whether every model offers a different selectable ringtone. See Google’s audio-settings guidance.
If the physical wired chime stays silent
Identify the chime type
A mechanical chime typically makes a classic “ding dong” sound with moving pistons. An electronic or digital chime uses a speaker or melody. This distinction helps determine whether the relevant check is physical movement or a digital ring-length setting.

Check for an obstruction, then inspect wiring safely
For a mechanical chime, wires or the doorbell connector can obstruct the moving parts. If inspecting doorbell wiring, switch off power at the breaker first; exposed wire ends should not touch. Check that wires and connectors are seated only if you can do so safely. Google recommends professional help for complex wiring, including some chimes with more than three wires. Follow Google’s wired Nest doorbell installation and wiring guidance if the installation needs inspection.
For a Google speaker or display announcement
A speaker/display announcement is an alternative alert, not a repair or synchronization method for the physical chime. If that announcement is the sound you expected to change or hear, check its separate prerequisites:

- Confirm the doorbell and the speaker or display are assigned to the same Home.
- Make sure the speaker or display is online and Do Not Disturb is off.
- Confirm visitor announcements are enabled, and that Quiet Time has ended.
