Need Cleaner Clothes With Less Effort? 5 Washing Machines With Smart Wash Features

Smart-wash can mean automatic sensing, detergent dispensing, or app controls. Compare five washer candidates and verify features, fit, and model details before buying.

Smart-wash features can take some of the guesswork and repetition out of laundry: sensors may adjust a cycle, dispensers may measure detergent, and connected apps may offer remote controls or notifications. They are different features, however, and do not prove that a washer cleans better than another. Here are five model families or candidates to investigate, with an important caveat: verify the exact model, market, and feature list before buying.

What counts as a smart-wash feature?

“Smart wash” is an umbrella term, not a standard feature set. Depending on the washer, it can mean sensors that select or adjust settings, an automatic detergent dispenser, cycle recommendations, or app-based controls. A model can have one of these without having the others.

  • Automatic sensing: Sensors detect factors such as load size, soil level, or fabric characteristics and adjust selected cycle settings.
  • Automatic detergent dispensing: A reservoir holds detergent and dispenses a measured amount during washes. The number of loads advertised per fill is a manufacturer estimate, and actual duration depends on dosing and use.
  • Connected controls: An app may provide functions such as notifications, scheduling, or remote control. These can require Wi-Fi, an account, a compatible device, and the relevant app; check the requirements for the exact washer.

These conveniences can reduce routine choices and chores. The manufacturer descriptions below establish advertised features, not comparative evidence that a smart washer cleans better than a competing machine.

Which washing machines have smart-wash features?

These are candidates based on manufacturer information, not independently tested recommendations. The available information does not establish a current, exact model for every entry, so confirm the SKU and its specifications in your market before comparing or purchasing.

Washer candidate Smart-wash features described by the manufacturer What to verify
LG WM6700HBA, US product page 5.0-cu.-ft. smart front-load washer. LG says AI DD 2.0 senses fabric texture, soil level, and load size to select wash motions, temperatures, and other settings. ezDispense is described as holding detergent for up to 18–31 wash cycles, depending on use. Confirm current availability, dimensions, installation fit, and the dispenser instructions for the exact unit.
LG WM5500HWA, US product page 4.5-cu.-ft. smart front-load washer with AI DD and TurboWash 360. LG describes its built-in intelligence as selecting wash settings. LG’s under-30-minute cleaning claim applies to a specified cycle and load; it should not be read as a typical time for every wash. Check the product page’s conditions and footnotes.
Samsung Bespoke AI front-load washer, select model Samsung says AI OptiWash on select models senses fabric, load size, and soil level, then adjusts settings and detergent. Samsung also describes SmartThings connectivity and notifications or controls for supported products. Choose an exact model: feature availability differs across the product family, including AI cycles, auto dispensing, speed cycles, and capacity.
GE front-load washer with Adaptive SmartDispense, exact model to verify GE describes Adaptive SmartDispense as holding detergent for up to 32 loads and using SmartHQ to identify detergent and dispense the correct amount. The available category information does not establish an exact current SKU. Confirm the model and its SmartHQ and dispenser features before treating this as a specific recommendation.
Whirlpool washer with AI Intelligent Wash, exact model to verify Whirlpool describes AI Intelligent Wash as adjusting water levels, temperature, and wash actions. Confirm the exact model and whether it is a front-load or top-load washer. Whirlpool separately describes Load & Go on select top-load washers as holding detergent for up to 20 loads.

Manufacturer capacity figures are not directly comparable measures of how long a reservoir will last in your household. Load size, selected dose, and use affect the number of washes per fill; check the instructions for the specific washer and detergent setup.

Do smart washers automatically choose the cycle?

Some models adjust selected settings based on what their sensors detect, but that does not mean every smart washer independently selects every cycle or that every load can be handed over without review. LG describes the WM6700HBA’s AI DD 2.0 as using fabric texture, soil, and load size to select wash motions, temperatures, and other settings. Samsung describes AI OptiWash on select Bespoke models as detecting fabric, load size, and soil level and adjusting settings and detergent.

Check the exact model’s feature description to learn which decisions are automated and which still require you to choose a cycle or options. Marketing terms such as “AI” do not, by themselves, establish better cleaning or fabric care.

Can a washing machine measure detergent for you?

Automatic dispensers can store detergent and dispense an amount for a wash, reducing the need to measure it by hand each time. The advertised reservoir capacity varies by product: LG lists up to 18–31 wash cycles per fill for the WM6700HBA, GE says up to 32 loads for Adaptive SmartDispense on select front-load models, and Whirlpool says up to 20 loads for Load & Go on select top-load washers. Samsung lists Flex Auto Dispense on select products.

These are manufacturer-stated capacities, not a promise that a reservoir lasts for the same number of washes in every home. Compare the exact unit’s instructions, compatible detergent setup, and dosing options before relying on a headline load count.

What can the washer app do?

Connected features depend on both the washer and its app ecosystem. Whirlpool describes app scheduling for supported washers. GE describes SmartHQ detergent identification with Adaptive SmartDispense. Samsung describes SmartThings connectivity, including notifications and controls for supported products. A feature listed for one product does not guarantee that it appears on every model in the same brand’s lineup.

Rank #3
LG WM4200HBA / WM4200HBA / WM4200HBA 5.0 Cu. Ft. Mega Capacity Smart wi-fi Enabled Front Load Washer with TurboWash 360 and Built-in Intelligence
  • High-Efficiency Front-Load Washer – ENERGY STAR certified design delivers powerful cleaning performance while helping reduce annual energy consumption to approximately 105 kWh/year.

  • Smart ThinQ Technology – Wi-Fi enabled washer allows remote monitoring, cycle control, and notifications through the LG ThinQ app.
  • Quiet & Durable Inverter Direct Drive Motor – Designed for reduced vibration, quieter operation, and long-term reliability.

Before buying, check whether the app function you want is supported by the exact SKU and whether it requires a Wi-Fi connection, an account, a compatible phone or other device, or additional setup. If you mainly want less effort, compare the practical value of dispensing or sensing with the app features you expect to use.

How to choose the right smart-wash model

  1. Start with the exact model number and market. Do not shop by brand or family name alone. Features can vary among products marketed under the same lineup.
  2. Check fit before features. Confirm washer type, capacity, dimensions, delivery access, hookups, and installation requirements against the space and household’s needs.
  3. Match automation to the chore you want to reduce. For fewer cycle decisions, look for clearly described sensing. For less measuring, check for an automatic dispenser and its instructions. For remote updates or scheduling, confirm the app feature and connectivity requirements.
  4. Read time claims narrowly. A quick-cycle claim such as LG’s under-30-minute statement for the WM5500HWA is tied to a specified cycle and load. It is not a guarantee for every load or wash setting.
  5. Compare the full cost and current specifications. Prices, dimensions, and availability are not established here for every candidate; check the current listing for the exact model in your market.

What smart-wash features do not establish

The manufacturer pages describe how particular features are intended to work. They do not provide independent, head-to-head cleaning tests for these washers. Treat automation as a convenience to evaluate against your laundry habits, not as proof of superior cleaning. If cleaning performance is your deciding factor, seek independent comparative testing of the exact models you are considering.
