Rhea describes itself as the evolution of Ref Finance and Burrow Finance after a merger and rebrand. Orderly is a different kind of option: orderbook infrastructure accessed through builder interfaces, including interfaces offering perpetual futures. Neither venue can be named the consistent liquidity winner without current, same-pair quotes for the trade size you intend to place.
How Rhea and Orderly differ
| What to compare | Rhea Finance (formerly Ref Finance) | Orderly-powered interfaces |
|---|---|---|
| Trading model | NEAR DEX with AMM, stable-pool, and discretized concentrated-liquidity pool types; smart routing can select or combine routes. | Orderbook infrastructure and a liquidity layer. Trading takes place through builder interfaces rather than one universal retail front end. |
| Products covered here | Token swaps through pools and routes. | Orderbooks can support spot markets and perpetual futures, depending on the builder and market available there. |
| How fees are set | Pool-level fees vary; Rhea documentation describes creator-set fees, and the live pool or route is the relevant place to check. | Each broker or builder sets its own fee rates. Perpetual trading may also involve funding costs, which are not the same as a spot trading fee. |
| What establishes token availability | A live selector entry and a usable route for the particular asset and network. A token metadata entry alone does not guarantee a direct, liquid market. | A market shown as available in the specific builder interface. An SDK symbol example does not establish that the market is currently live everywhere. |
| Best liquidity check | Quote the same pair and trade size, inspect route and estimated slippage, and note the pool and quote time. | Check the builder’s orderbook depth and quote for the same market and size. Aggregate Orderly dashboard metrics are not pair-level depth. |
Rhea’s white paper characterizes the project as the evolution of Ref Finance and Burrow Finance following a strategic merger and rebrand. Historical names may still appear in contracts, SDKs, and URLs, but counting Ref and Rhea as two independent current DEX choices can mislead a comparison.

Which NEAR tokens can you trade?
Token support is specific to the interface, network, and route—not just a ticker. The Rhea interface has displayed NEAR pairs including NEAR/USDC and NEAR/USDt, but pool listings and routes can change. Treat these as examples to check, not a guarantee that a particular pool or fee tier is still available when you trade.
Before using a token, confirm its network and contract address in the trading interface or another authoritative token source, then check that the exact asset appears in the live selector and that the proposed trade has a route. Two assets with familiar tickers are not necessarily the same token. A direct pair and a smart-routed swap can also have different execution paths and costs.

Ref’s SDK documentation describes a token-metadata function for populating selectors. That can help an integrator list assets, but metadata is not proof of a live market, adequate liquidity, or an acceptable quote. Orderly’s SDK similarly provides methods to retrieve available symbols, order rules, and fee information. Its documentation includes SPOT_NEAR_USDC as an example symbol; check the chosen builder’s market list rather than assuming that example is currently tradable there.
How to compare liquidity for your trade
Liquidity is meaningful only in relation to a particular market, trade size, and time. Pool TVL, 24-hour volume, orderbook depth, and executable output are different measures. A pool can have substantial TVL but still quote poorly for a particular size or price; an aggregate dashboard figure cannot answer how much a specific NEAR pair will move when you trade.
- Choose the exact market. Match the token contracts and network, not only the tickers. For Rhea, note whether the quote uses a direct pool or a route through other pools. For Orderly, select the exact spot or derivatives market in the builder.
- Use the same input and direction. Compare the same sell amount for the same pair on each venue. If the trade is a buy instead, compare the same target output and record how much input each venue requires.
- Record the quote details together. Note the timestamp, estimated output, fee information, route or pool, and estimated price impact or slippage. For an orderbook, inspect available depth around the execution price as well as the quote.
- Compare like with like. Include applicable trading or pool fees and any route-specific costs. Do not treat perpetual funding as equivalent to a spot-swap fee, or platform-wide TVL as equivalent to depth for the chosen pair.
- Recheck before submitting. Pool state, orderbook depth, prices, and fees can change. A quote taken earlier may no longer represent the transaction you are about to make.
Rhea’s dashboard exposes pool information, while Orderly’s headline dashboard reports aggregate activity such as total volume, open markets, and TVL. Those figures describe different scopes and do not provide a like-for-like ranking of NEAR spot-pair execution. Without matched quotes and depth for the same market, size, and time, there is no sound basis to call either the deeper venue.

What fees apply?
On Rhea, there is no single platform-wide swap fee that describes every trade. Pool models and fee tiers differ, and pool creators can set fees for permissionless pools. Read the fee attached to the actual pool or route shown for your quote; a different pool for the same token pair may have a different fee and liquidity profile.
On an Orderly-powered interface, check that builder’s fee schedule for the selected market. Orderly states that brokers or builders set their own fee rates. If you are trading perpetuals, keep the trading fee separate from funding costs and other position-related mechanics. A listed spot fee and an AMM pool fee are not automatically comparable unless the quote accounts for the complete execution cost.
Pool types and execution risks on Rhea
AMM and stable pools
Rhea supports permissionless pool creation, including separate pools for duplicate token pairs, with fees set at pool level by the creator. Its documentation describes stable pools for strongly correlated assets. For any pool type, compare the actual quote rather than assuming that a familiar pair or pool label guarantees low slippage.

Discretized concentrated liquidity
In a concentrated-liquidity pool, liquidity is assigned within a chosen price range. Available depth can therefore depend on where the market price sits relative to that range, and liquidity-provider exposure changes as price moves. A displayed TVL figure by itself does not show how much liquidity is available at the price and size relevant to your swap.

Slippage limits and routing
Rhea documents controls for setting a minimum output or maximum input to bound slippage, as well as fixed-output requests. Its smart-routing description says routing considers pool status, liquidity depth, and fee configuration to choose or combine routes. These are protocol descriptions, not independent performance guarantees. Review the proposed route and set a slippage bound you understand before confirming.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When Orderly is—and is not—a direct alternative
Orderly’s orderbook model is not simply another AMM pool. A spot market in a builder interface may be a relevant alternative for a token swap if that interface supports the exact market. Perpetual futures are a different product: they introduce collateral, funding, and liquidation mechanics that do not apply to an ordinary AMM spot swap. Do not compare a perpetual market’s volume or costs with a spot pool as if both offered the same trade.

Orderly documents order types including market, limit, IOC, FOK, post-only, and reduce-only. Which controls and markets are available to you depends on the builder interface. Check its market list, order rules, fee schedule, and funding information before deciding whether its orderbook suits the trade.
A practical choice by trade type
- For a NEAR token swap: start with Rhea’s live selector and compare the route, fee tier, and output for your amount. Check other interfaces only if they show the same token contracts and a current market.
- For a market where execution price matters: compare an actual quote and, where available, pool or orderbook depth for the same trade size. Do not select on TVL or headline volume alone.
- For a limit order or derivatives position: an Orderly-powered builder may offer relevant orderbook tools or perpetual markets, but verify its current support and understand builder fees and any derivative-specific costs.
Because pool listings, fees, routes, and market availability change, a venue comparison is useful only when its pair, size, quote, and timestamp are stated. Without that matched snapshot, the defensible comparison is between trading models and the checks each one requires—not a permanent ranking of token coverage, fees, or liquidity.
