When is NBA 2K25 getting delisted, and when do its servers shut down?
According to 2K’s NBA 2K25: Server Sunset notice, the game will no longer be available for purchase beginning October 30, 2026. Its online services are scheduled to retire on December 31, 2026; from January 1, 2027, multiplayer and online modes will be inaccessible.

The notice says existing owners can still redownload the game and play offline modes. It also says MyCAREER and MyTEAM will no longer be available and players will no longer be able to earn Virtual Currency (VC). 2K’s broader online services status page cautions that projected retirement dates can change, so these dates are the current published plan, not an immutable guarantee.

There is no official or independent ranking that makes one mode the universal best. For choosing a mode to keep playing after the servers retire, the practical question is whether it remains available offline and whether its main appeal depends on online services.

MyNBA and MyGM: best for an ongoing franchise
MyNBA is the clearest pick if you want a save built around managing a team over time. 2K’s launch announcement describes The Steph Era, which lets players revisit or rewrite the 2017 Golden State Warriors’ championship legacy. On New Gen, MyGM adds a role-playing general-manager experience. MyNBA is explicitly among the modes 2K says remain playable offline, though that does not preserve server-dependent features such as Online Leagues or community sharing.
Play Now: best for a quick game
Play Now is the straightforward choice when you want to select teams and get into a match without committing to a season or player storyline. 2K lists it as an offline mode. That does not mean online multiplayer remains available after retirement.

The W and MyWNBA: best for WNBA play
2K describes The W as a path to becoming a WNBA legend, while its sunset notice lists both The W and MyWNBA among the offline modes that remain. They are the natural picks for WNBA-focused play, but the survival of online features is not promised.
Learn 2K / 2KU: best for practice
If you want to learn controls or work on skills, the launch announcement describes tutorials, mini-games, drills and practice scenarios in Learn 2K. 2K’s status page lists 2KU/Learn 2K among offline modes.

Which modes should you play before the shutdown?
MyCAREER: for story and player progression
MyCAREER’s Heart of a Dynasty flashback story and the goal of building a dynasty make it the fit for players who want a player-centered narrative. But the word “career” should not be taken to mean the mode will keep working as a standalone offline experience: 2K says MyCAREER will no longer be available beginning January 1, 2027.
MyTEAM: for collecting and competition
MyTEAM is aimed at players who enjoy assembling a collection and competing through modes such as Triple Threat Park, Breakout, Showdown and King of the Court. 2K also announced the return of the Auction House. Those features belong to a mode that 2K says will no longer be available after online retirement, so it makes sense as a before-shutdown choice, not a long-term offline recommendation.

The City: for New Gen social play
2K promoted New Gen features including the Boulevard of the Stars, ranked Proving Grounds, MyCOURT and returning MyPARKS. The City is an online-facing feature set, so its social and competitive appeal depends on services that will not remain available after the shutdown.

Yes. 2K announced NBA 2K25 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC, but mode details and features are not identical across generations. 2K identifies PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC as New Gen; ProPLAY and The City are New Gen features. Crossplay is limited to New Gen PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Check the platform-specific edition before buying or choosing a mode.
2K also announced a North American physical WNBA Edition for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game-specific sunset notice schedules the end of purchase availability for October 30, 2026, so check a retailer for current stock and edition availability rather than relying on launch-era pricing or availability.
What to know about NBA 2K25’s feature claims
In its September 6, 2024 launch announcement, 2K described 9,000 new animations translated from real NBA footage through ProPLAY, including 1,500 dribbling animations, 1,100 signature shot animations and 1,300 off-ball animations. These are publisher-reported counts, not an independent measure of which mode plays best. The same launch-era announcement described seasonal rewards every six weeks; that statement does not establish that seasons continue through or after the server retirement.
