His documented work spans space-policy analysis, legal and regulatory questions around in-orbit servicing, and industry efforts to develop an Indian on-orbit servicing and refueling ecosystem. The available record establishes these affiliations and outputs, but not a complete biography, education history, or independently verified mission experience.
What Naresh Kannan does at OrbitAID
A Centre for Air Power Studies (CAPS) issue brief dated 24 April 2025 identifies “Mr Naresh Kannan, Business Development Lead, OrbitAID Aerospace” as its author. The document, issue brief 05/25, is titled China’s Space Strategy: Militarisation, Diplomacy, and Deterrence. This is the clearest dated public source for his role and shows that his work includes analysis of strategic and policy issues affecting space activity, not only commercial business development.

OrbitAID’s own 2025 communications also describe Kannan as Business Development Lead. Those posts frame the company’s activities around satellite servicing, docking, refueling and extending spacecraft operating life. Because these descriptions come from the company, they should be read as statements of corporate plans and positioning rather than independent proof that a particular servicing mission has been completed.

China’s space strategy
The CAPS brief places Kannan’s public-policy work in the context of China’s space strategy, examining militarisation, diplomacy and deterrence. The publication provides evidence of authorship and subject matter; it does not, by itself, establish his wider employment history, academic credentials or a personal position on every issue discussed in the paper.

Legal rules for in-orbit servicing
The International Astronautical Federation’s final programme for GLEX 2025 lists “Mr. Naresh Kannan, OrbitAID Aerospace Private Limited, Bangalore, India” as a presenter for a paper titled IN ORBIT SERVICING – AN EVOLVING LANDSCAPE OF LEGAL AND REGULATORY FRAMEWORK. The programme listing supports describing his public work as engaging with the legal and regulatory dimensions of in-orbit servicing (IOS), including the rules and institutional arrangements needed when one spacecraft approaches, docks with or services another.
The title is a paper title recorded by the IAF programme, not a verified quotation from Kannan. The listing also does not provide a transcript, technical results or details of any regulatory proposal, so conclusions should remain limited to the subject indicated by the programme.

Work on India’s on-orbit servicing ecosystem
OrbitAID announced a policy white paper produced with SIA-India on advancing India’s on-orbit servicing and refueling ecosystem and named Kannan among its co-authors. This establishes his participation as reported by OrbitAID. Unless the underlying paper is examined independently, the announcement should not be treated as an external assessment of the recommendations or their likely implementation.
In the company’s ISAM 2025 material, OrbitAID links its plans to a SIDRP interface, future tanker satellites, on-orbit refueling and satellite life extension. These are company-reported concepts and intended capabilities. The reviewed public material does not independently verify a launch, an operational tanker, a completed docking or refueling demonstration, a customer contract, or a fixed mission schedule.

How his role fits the emerging servicing market
In-orbit servicing is an industry category rather than a single product. Potential activities include inspection, rendezvous and proximity operations, docking, life-extension services, refueling and debris-related support. A business-development lead working in this field may need to connect spacecraft operators, manufacturers, launch providers, insurers, regulators and standards bodies. Kannan’s documented publications indicate involvement at the policy and ecosystem level, while the available sources do not establish which specific transactions or missions he has personally led.
| Source and date | What it establishes | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| CAPS issue brief 05/25, 24 April 2025 | Kannan is identified as OrbitAID’s Business Development Lead and author of a brief on China’s space strategy. | Primary evidence for his role and policy writing. |
| IAF GLEX 2025 final programme | Kannan is listed as an OrbitAID Aerospace presenter for a paper on IOS legal and regulatory frameworks. | Evidence of a scheduled professional presentation and its stated topic, not proof of operational performance. |
| OrbitAID announcements, 2025 | He is named in a joint SIA-India policy-paper effort and described in company ISAM material as Business Development Lead. | Useful evidence of company-reported responsibilities and plans; independent validation is not supplied. |
What is not established publicly
- No reviewed source confirms Kannan’s education, prior employers, professional certifications or complete career history.
- No direct personal quotation by Kannan was identified in the available material.
- The sources do not independently verify OrbitAID’s technical readiness, completed servicing demonstrations, tanker-satellite deployment or mission timetable.
- No verified market-size statistic or replacement-cost figure is necessary to establish his role and should not be presented as fact without an authoritative source.
Why the profile matters
Satellite servicing depends on more than spacecraft hardware. Licensing, rendezvous safety, ownership and control of serviced vehicles, liability, data rights, export controls and interoperability can determine whether a mission is feasible. Kannan’s documented portfolio connects those policy questions with OrbitAID’s stated commercial interest in refueling and life extension. That makes him a visible industry-facing contributor to discussions about how India could build the legal and business conditions for servicing in orbit, while the evidence remains insufficient to claim that the company’s proposed capabilities are already operational.
