It is not a substitute for a full PDF editor. In PCWorld’s September 16, 2026 review, editing was limited, Word conversion often damaged layout, and the operator was not clearly identified. The review advises against using it for detailed editing, faithful Office conversion, or sensitive documents until those gaps are addressed.
What the service offers
PCWorld reports 36 free, browser-based tools grouped into six categories: Convert Documents, Organize, Edit & Sign, Optimize, Convert Images, and Security. Of these, 14 are conversion options. The interface is available in 33 languages. At the time of the review, all 36 tools were free. Pricing can change, so check the site before relying on that.

Routine page tasks
This is where the service performed best. The reviewer found that merge and split kept page order intact. Rotate, delete, reorder, and crop worked as expected in the documents tested. Watermark and page-number placement also worked in the review.

Editing and signatures
The Edit tool can place new text and images over a page. It cannot change existing text, and it does not add common annotations such as highlights or comments. If you need to correct a typo in a contract or fill in a field that was not built as a form, you will need a different tool.

The signature feature adds a visible stamp to the page. It is not a certificate-backed digital signature, so it should not be treated as one where a signed document must be legally verifiable.
Redaction
This is the most important caution in the review. In the reviewer’s test, redacted pages were rasterized, which turned them into images. Covered text could no longer be selected or extracted from the downloaded file. The reviewer also reported that the affected pages lost searchability and screen-reader accessibility. Before sending a redacted file to anyone, open it and try to select the blacked-out text. If you can select or search the underlying words, the redaction has not protected them.

Converting to and from Word
Word-to-PDF conversion worked well in the reviewer’s test, though fonts were substituted. PDF-to-Word fared worse. In one test it preserved most of the text and page count, but it changed page size and typography, lost formatting, and turned each printed line into a separate paragraph. In another test, an image and table formatting were lost. The result can be cumbersome to edit, so treat Word output as a starting draft rather than a finished file.

OCR for scanned documents
In a scanned-document test, the reviewer found OCR usable but noted imperfect reading order and some stray text. The review reports English-only support and a limit of 30 pages per file. The OCR tool carried a “Free for now” label when it was reviewed, which signals that these terms may change.

Password protection
In the reviewer’s test, Protect PDF produced an AES-256-encrypted file that could not be opened without the password. This is a result from one test, not an independent security audit, so it is not a guarantee of how the service handles encryption in general.
Who the operator is, and where your files go
PCWorld reports that the reviewed site did not name an operating company or address, and that its governing-law language was placeholder text. Those points concern transparency, and they matter most if you upload contracts, medical records, or other confidential material.

The mypdftools.in homepage and About page make a different claim. They describe processing that happens locally in your browser and state that files are not uploaded. The available sources do not establish that the PCWorld review tested mypdftools.in. Treat the two accounts as separate until you know which site you are using. Attribute the upload workflow to the PCWorld review and the local-processing claim to mypdftools.in.

If no file is sent and the work happens in the page, the local-processing description holds for that test. This check does not replace reading the site’s privacy policy, but it gives you direct evidence for your own files.

Use MyPDFTools for simple, one-off page work on documents that are not confidential and do not need to be edited heavily afterward. Choose a paid desktop PDF editor if you need to change existing text, convert PDFs to Word with precise formatting, or produce legally verifiable signatures. PCWorld names Adobe Acrobat and Nitro PDF as examples of full-featured alternatives. The review does not compare their current prices.
For redaction, OCR on longer documents, and any file you would not want exposed, use a tool whose processing and operator are clearly documented, and verify the output yourself before sharing it.
