On Android, mSpy’s compatibility policy describes installing the software on the device itself, which requires physical access. On iPhone, the described route uses the target person’s iCloud sign-in and a verification code, with its own limits. Feature availability, update timing and price depend on the plan, the platform and the checkout page, and whether using mSpy is lawful depends on your authority over the device and the consent of the person being monitored.
What mSpy says it does
mSpy describes itself as parental monitoring software. According to its materials, the software gathers information such as location, text messages and call details from the target phone and presents it in an account dashboard. These are the company’s claims, not independently measured results.

mSpy’s compatibility material gives the most detailed feature list for Android. It names:
- chats across selected messaging applications
- location and geofencing
- calls, texts and emails
- browsing history and site blocking
- alerts and calendar activity
The FAQ adds plan-dependent items such as app activity and other phone data. Not every capability applies to every phone or setup. The sources cited for this review do not give an equivalent per-feature list for iPhone, so do not assume the Android list carries over.

Plans, devices and update timing
According to mSpy’s FAQ, the Premium plan covers one device, and Family Kit can link up to three. Update timing is stated per platform:

Does mSpy work on iPhone?
Yes, but through a narrower and different route. mSpy’s compatibility policy describes an iCloud Sync path in which the installer signs in with the target person’s iCloud username and password, then enters a verification code that appears on the target device. The policy says the owner of that iCloud account receives an email notifying them that a new device has synced.
- Obtain the target person’s iCloud username and password, and confirm you have the authority to monitor that device (see the legal section below).
- Sign in with those credentials in the mSpy setup flow.
- Enter the verification code shown on the target iPhone.
- Expect the iCloud account owner to receive a sync notification email, as the policy describes.
The sources cited here do not give exact on-screen labels, so follow the prompts in mSpy’s setup flow. Whether you need the phone in hand for this route is covered in the access section below.
Does mSpy work on Android?
Yes, on Android 5 or higher, through a route that requires physical access to the device. The compatibility policy, last updated September 8, 2025, says customized Android operating systems may need different permission steps, and that the device owner or installer should grant those permissions during setup.

Before you start, check the following:
- The phone runs Android 5 or higher.
- You can hold the phone for the installation and the permission steps.
- You know whether the build is stock or manufacturer-customized, because customized builds may need different permission steps.
- You have decided how the monitored person will be informed, under the consent rules below.
The policy also says mSpy’s instructions include steps to remove the app’s traces from the device. Whether that step is appropriate depends entirely on the legal position covered later in this article.
Do you need physical access to install mSpy?
Yes for Android, and not necessarily for iPhone. Do not read the iPhone route as “no access required.” mSpy’s FAQ says you may need the phone briefly to enable iCloud backup and to obtain the verification code.

Compatibility is not a feature guarantee
mSpy’s compatibility policy says: “If your target device is compatible with these requirements, we may not guarantee that all the features of mSpy Software under the subscription plan will correctly run on a target device.” It also acknowledges that features may fail or contain bugs.

How much does mSpy cost?
mSpy’s pricing article, updated August 24, 2026, lists the figures below. They are published list figures, not a checkout total. The article does not show local currency, taxes, discounts or the amount billed at renewal.

The per-month figures for longer terms are monthly equivalents. The article says longer subscriptions have lower monthly pricing, but it does not show that the twelve-month rate can be cancelled monthly.
The same article lists two optional paid services: Support Priority Line at $12.99 and mAssistance at $53.99. It describes these services as non-refundable. Check whether either is preselected at checkout.

Refunds, renewal and what to check before paying
The FAQ says refund requests can be made within 14 days, subject to the refund policy. The pricing article treats technical problems that support cannot fix as a refund scenario, and it says some paid support is non-refundable.

Before paying, confirm the following on the checkout page:
- the total charge for the term you choose
- the renewal date and renewal amount
- whether the device count you need is covered by the plan you select
- which setup method applies to your child’s phone
- cancellation terms and refund conditions
- whether any optional support service is included or charged separately
Is mSpy legal to use?
mSpy’s FAQ states: “If you want to monitor an adult person, you have to get their consent.” The FAQ also says laws differ by country.
mSpy’s Help Center article “What can I do if I am being monitored by somebody?”, dated August 23, 2024, says the software may be installed on your own device, an underage child’s device, or another person’s device with that owner’s explicit consent and agreement. It warns that installing surveillance software without authorization is unlawful in many instances, and that notice to the monitored person may be required.
These are company statements, not jurisdiction-specific legal advice. Whether a parent may monitor a minor’s phone, and whether the child must be told, depends on local law. Settle that question before installing, because it decides whether the setup steps above should be used at all.

Performance and the limits of the evidence
This article is based on mSpy’s published materials and one independent review. It does not report installations, battery-life tests, or accuracy tests of mSpy. Claims about update speed and reliability therefore come from mSpy’s own statements and from TechRadar’s reported observations.
A 2022 paper hosted by the Federal Trade Commission, “No Privacy Among Spies: Assessing the Functionality and Insecurity of Consumer Android Spyware Apps,” includes mSpy among the consumer Android spyware apps it studied. It is a historical study, not a current audit of mSpy’s software or security controls, and it does not show whether today’s version is secure or insecure. The available evidence is not enough for a current security verdict.
Which situations fit
- Your child’s phone is Android, you have it in hand, and you have lawful authority: the Android route is available. Expect permission steps, and possible feature limits on customized builds.
- Your child’s phone is an iPhone and you can legitimately obtain the iCloud sign-in and verification code: the iCloud route is available, but TechRadar reports fewer features than on Android.
- You cannot get the iCloud credentials or verification code, or cannot hold an Android phone for setup: the route described by mSpy does not apply to your situation.
- The person to be monitored is an adult: the FAQ requires that person’s consent. Parental responsibility does not replace it.
- A specific feature is essential to you: compatibility is not a guarantee. If a core feature fails after setup, use the refund window and conditions described above.
The Bottom Line
mSpy is a workable paid option for a parent who has lawful authority over a child’s phone and can either hold an Android device for setup or legitimately obtain the iCloud sign-in and verification code for an iPhone. Expect features to vary by platform and setup, and treat the price as a checkout figure rather than the list price until you have seen the total charge and renewal terms.
