For this exact model, the headline capabilities include Wi-Fi 6E, a 2.5GbE wired LAN controller, a PCIe 4.0 x4 primary M.2 slot with a compatible processor, and a primary graphics slot that can operate at PCIe 4.0 or 3.0 depending on the CPU. Actual performance depends on the connected components, configuration and test conditions.

Which motherboard does this answer cover?
MSI’s MAG B550 TOMAHAWK WIFI specification page identifies an AMD B550, AM4 motherboard with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. The name matters when checking specifications or benchmarks: the MAG B550 TOMAHAWK without “WIFI” and the MAG B550 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI are separate products.

A result for one of those other models does not establish the performance of the TOMAHAWK WIFI. Match the full model name before applying a review, manual or store listing to your system.

How fast is its networking?
Wi-Fi 6E: a capability, not a measured Mbps result
MSI lists support for Wi-Fi 6E (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax) on the 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz bands, with 20, 40 or 80 MHz channel bandwidths and MU-MIMO. The specification page does not give a measured Wi-Fi throughput figure. Actual speed depends on the router, client device, distance, interference and network configuration.
Access to 6 GHz also depends on country regulations and Windows support, as MSI notes on its specification page. Having Wi-Fi 6E hardware therefore does not guarantee that the 6 GHz band is available in every location or setup.

Wired Ethernet: 2.5Gbps link capability
The board has one Realtek RTL8125B 2.5Gbps LAN controller, according to MSI. The 2.5Gbps figure describes the controller’s link capability; it is not a promise of that speed for an internet connection or file transfer. The network connection, other devices, cabling and transfer conditions also matter.

What do the PCIe and M.2 specifications allow?
Graphics slot
MSI lists one primary PCIe x16 slot that supports PCIe 4.0 or PCIe 3.0, depending on the installed processor. The specification describes the slot’s interface capability, not a measured frame-rate gain. Graphics performance depends on the graphics card, CPU, software and other system conditions.

M.2 and SATA storage
The board has two M.2 Key M slots and six SATA 6Gb/s ports. Their capabilities differ:

A drive’s own interface and performance determine how much of a slot’s capability it can use. The lane-sharing note is also relevant when planning add-in cards and a second M.2 drive: installing in the listed combination changes which slot remains available and the M2_2 link width.

Does the board make a CPU or games run faster?
The specifications do not establish that it increases CPU performance or gaming frame rates. Those outcomes depend primarily on the processor, graphics card, memory, cooling, software and configuration. A motherboard can determine component compatibility and available interface capabilities, but those specifications alone are not benchmark results.

No independent, controlled CPU, gaming, storage or Wi-Fi throughput result for the exact MAG B550 TOMAHAWK WIFI revision is established by the available evidence. That is a limit on what can be concluded here, not proof that no such review exists. MSI’s promotional wording about M.2 thermal protection and SSD transfer speed is not a benchmark measurement.
How fast can its memory run?
MSI specifies four DDR4 slots, dual-channel operation and support for up to 128 GB. The listed A-XMP overclocked memory limits vary with DIMM rank and how many modules are installed. For example, MSI lists up to 5100 MHz for one single-rank DIMM per channel, with lower maxima for other arrangements.
These are support specifications, not a guarantee that every memory kit will run stably at its rated or listed maximum. The exact kit, processor, slot population and configuration affect the result.

What should you check before buying or comparing results?
- Exact model: Confirm that a listing or benchmark names MAG B550 TOMAHAWK WIFI—not the non-Wi-Fi TOMAHAWK or TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI.
- CPU and BIOS: MSI lists Ryzen 5000, 5000 G-Series, 4000G-Series and 3000 Series processor support. Check the current CPU support list and BIOS requirements for the specific processor.
- PCIe generation: Confirm which processor is installed before assuming the primary x16 slot or M2_1 will operate at PCIe 4.0.
- Storage and expansion layout: Account for the documented M2_2, PCI_E2 and PCI_E3 lane-sharing behavior when choosing drives and add-in cards.
- Memory configuration: Compare DIMM rank and slot population, not just a kit’s advertised frequency.
- Networking conditions: Treat Wi-Fi and Ethernet figures as interface capabilities; router, client, connection and environment determine observed throughput.
- Benchmark setup: For performance comparisons, look for results on the exact model with CPU, BIOS, memory, graphics card, storage and test conditions disclosed.
