MSI announced six custom GeForce RTX 50-series product families on January 7, 2025, shortly after NVIDIA introduced its Blackwell desktop GPUs at CES. The families—SUPRIM LIQUID, SUPRIM, VANGUARD, GAMING TRIO, VENTUS and INSPIRE—share NVIDIA GPU technology but differ in cooling, size, power delivery, styling and market position. The announcement was not a separate MSI GPU architecture or a promise that every RTX 50 chip launched simultaneously.

What MSI actually announced

MSI builds the board, cooler, fans, power circuitry, enclosure and (on some models) factory overclock around an NVIDIA GPU. Within a given GPU class, those choices can affect sustained boost behavior, temperature, acoustics, dimensions and price, but they do not turn an RTX 5070 into a different performance tier.

NVIDIA supplies the Blackwell GPU architecture, GDDR7 memory standard, driver support and technologies such as DLSS 4. MSI’s January announcement concentrated on custom-card design and positioning. It did not provide a complete model-by-model MSI price list. See MSI’s announcement for the original descriptions: MSI RTX 50-series announcement.

The six MSI families

Family Cooling and design Best fit Important qualification
SUPRIM LIQUID Hybrid water block, separate 360 mm radiator, STORMFORCE fans and metal-heavy exterior Flagship buyers seeking maximum thermal headroom The special waterway was announced only for the RTX 5090 model; radiator and pump placement must fit the case.
SUPRIM HYPER FROZR air cooling with vapor chamber, core pipes, STORMFORCE fans and airflow controls Premium air-cooled systems Exact dimensions and GPU availability vary by SKU.
VANGUARD HYPER FROZR, vapor chamber, core pipes, STORMFORCE fans, airflow controls and RGB High-end gaming builds with a futuristic design Its position relative to SUPRIM depends on the GPU and market. The Lucky Blind Box was a launch promotion, not a hardware feature.
GAMING TRIO TRIO FROZR 4, STORMFORCE fans, nickel-plated copper baseplate, fin shaping and RGB Mainstream-premium gaming and factory-overclocked options It generally costs less than the most elaborate flagship designs, but retail pricing is SKU- and region-dependent.
VENTUS Practical 2X or 3X-fan designs, TORX Fan 5.0 and metal backplate Value-conscious or space-constrained builds MSI identified RTX 5080, 5070 Ti and 5070 Ventus models as meeting the SFF-Ready Enthusiast guideline; that is not universal case compatibility.
INSPIRE Compact, Mondrian-inspired exterior, STORMFORCE cooling and nickel-plated copper baseplate Creator, professional and mainstream AI systems MSI identified RTX 5080, 5070 Ti and 5070 models as SFF-Ready. Application support, VRAM and software still determine AI performance.

The NVIDIA GPUs underneath

The MSI family name does not identify the GPU tier. NVIDIA’s initial desktop announcement covered four chips; the 5060-series and 5050 were later additions to the broader RTX 50 family.

Specifications are from NVIDIA’s comparison page. The first four launch dates and starting prices come from NVIDIA’s RTX 50-series announcement; the 5060 Ti and 5060 details are on NVIDIA’s 5060 family page. These are NVIDIA reference starting prices, not guaranteed prices for premium MSI cards.

Blackwell, DLSS 4 and frame generation

RTX 50-series desktop cards use NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture with fifth-generation Tensor Cores, fourth-generation RT Cores, GDDR7 on most models and neural-rendering features. DLSS 4 adds Multi Frame Generation on supported RTX 50-series hardware. It creates additional displayed frames between traditionally rendered frames, which can improve smoothness, but it is not the same as doubling native rendering performance or input responsiveness.

Results depend on the game, mode and settings. NVIDIA “up to” comparisons may include DLSS Super Resolution, Frame Generation or Multi Frame Generation. Compare like-for-like native and DLSS results, and consult NVIDIA’s feature documentation at the RTX 50-series page and its Blackwell overview.

Which MSI family makes sense?

Flagship gaming and compute

An RTX 5090 is the relevant GPU class for maximum gaming, rendering or local AI performance. SUPRIM LIQUID prioritizes hybrid cooling but needs a suitable 360 mm radiator location; SUPRIM provides a premium air-cooled alternative. Neither changes the 5090’s underlying GPU capability.

Rank #2
msi Gaming RTX 5080 16G Ventus 3X OC Black Graphics Card (16GB GDDR7, 256-bit, Extreme Clock 2640 MHz, DisplayPort x 3 2.1a, HDMI 2.1b, NVIDIA Blackwell Architecture)
  • Chipset: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080
  • Video Memory: 16 GB GDDR7
  • Memory Interface: 256-bit
  • Output: DisplayPort x 3 (v2.1a) / HDMI 2.1b x 1
  • Digital maximum resolution: 7680 x 4320

High-end 4K

RTX 5080 models can pair with SUPRIM, VANGUARD, GAMING TRIO or VENTUS. Choose among them according to price, noise expectations, dimensions and warranty rather than assuming the most expensive cooler is proportionally faster.

Enthusiast 1440p or 4K

The RTX 5070 Ti’s 16GB VRAM can be preferable to the RTX 5070’s 12GB for demanding textures, ray tracing and longer ownership. GAMING TRIO, VANGUARD, SUPRIM and VENTUS choices should be judged by the exact SKU and case fit.

Smaller or lower-cost systems

RTX 5070, RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060 can suit 1440p or mainstream builds. VENTUS and INSPIRE may simplify compatibility, but check every measurement. The 5060-series cards were later additions, not part of MSI’s January 7 announcement.

Creators and local AI users

Start with VRAM capacity, CUDA or application support, model size and software optimization. “AI-focused” styling does not guarantee faster results in a particular application; a 32GB RTX 5090, 16GB 5070 Ti or 16GB 5060 Ti may fit very different workloads.

Rank #3
MSI NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16G Gaming Trio OC Plus Graphics Card - 16 GB GDDR7 (28 GB/s, 256-bit), PCIe 5.0 - TRI FROZR 4 (3 x STORMFORCE Fans) - RGB - HDMI 2.1b, DisplayPort 2.1b

Compatibility checklist before buying

  1. Confirm the exact SKU. Family names cover multiple GPUs and revisions. Read the MSI datasheet for length, height, thickness, clock and connector details.
  2. Measure the case. Check GPU length, vertical clearance, slot thickness, side-panel clearance and front-radiator space. For example, one RTX 5070 Gaming Trio OC datasheet lists 338 × 140 × 50 mm; that measurement cannot be generalized to all MSI RTX 5070 cards. See the MSI datasheet.
  3. Check the power path. Verify the card’s recommended PSU, the newer high-power connector or adapter, cable bend radius and clearance from the side panel. Use the exact MSI product page rather than one universal wattage rule.
  4. Plan airflow. A 3X-fan card may offer more cooling capacity, while a 2X card can fit more cases. Fan count alone does not establish noise or temperatures; look for independent testing of the exact model.
  5. Validate SFF claims. “SFF-Ready Enthusiast” is a formal guideline, not a guarantee for every small-form-factor case, vertical mount, front radiator or cable layout.
  6. Check outputs, warranty and region. Port layouts, support terms, stock and prices can vary by SKU, country and retailer.

What changed after the January announcement?

NVIDIA and MSI expanded the range after the initial 5090/5080/5070 Ti/5070 launch window. MSI later announced additional RTX 5070-family products and, on August 5, 2025, RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 Ti EXPERT cards (MSI EXPERT announcement). The RTX 5060 Ti, RTX 5060 and RTX 5050 also belong to the later broadening of the generation. MSI’s live catalog is at the official store; availability and prices should be checked for your region on the day you buy.

As a dated market signal rather than an MSI price list, PC Gamer reported approximately $1,029 for an RTX 5070 Ti, $1,289 for an RTX 5080 and $4,399 for an RTX 5090 on August 14, 2026 (price-watch report). Street prices change and may not represent the same MSI model, retailer or country.

Bottom line

MSI’s January 2025 announcement offered broad choices in cooling, size and styling around NVIDIA’s RTX 5090, 5080, 5070 Ti and 5070 GPUs. Select the GPU and VRAM first, then compare the exact MSI card’s dimensions, power requirements, cooler, warranty and independently tested acoustics. SUPRIM LIQUID, SUPRIM, VANGUARD, GAMING TRIO, VENTUS and INSPIRE describe MSI’s implementation—not six separate levels of NVIDIA performance.
