It transfers supported data, not a complete clone of your phone: plan to reinstall apps, sign in again, move some files manually, and arrange cellular service with your carrier.
What transfers from Samsung to iPhone?
Apple’s Move to iOS can transfer contacts, message history and SMS, camera photos and videos, photo albums, files and folders, settings, web bookmarks, mail accounts, WhatsApp messages and media, Voice Memos, call history, and calendars. Some free apps may be matched when they are available in both stores and support the transfer. See Apple’s Move to iPhone instructions for the current supported categories.

It is not a complete device copy. Apple says music, books, and PDFs need to be moved manually. You may need to download apps again from the App Store and sign back in to services. Move to iOS does not guarantee that every app or its data will transfer.
Prepare both phones before you begin
- Charge both phones and connect them to power. Turn on Wi-Fi on the Galaxy.
- Check that the iPhone has enough available storage for the selected content, including anything you intend to move from a Galaxy microSD card.
- If you want Chrome bookmarks transferred, update Chrome on the Galaxy first.
- Keep the Galaxy until you have checked the iPhone’s content, app access, accounts, and phone service.
If you prefer Google Photos or Google Calendar over Apple’s Photos or Calendar, Google advises unchecking those items during the transfer. You can access Google services on the iPhone by signing in; see Google’s Android-to-iPhone transfer guidance.

Transfer during iPhone setup
- Choose the Android transfer option. During iPhone setup, go to Transfer Your Apps & Data and tap From Android.
- Open Move to iOS on the Galaxy. Follow its prompts, then enter the six- or ten-digit code shown on the iPhone. The iPhone creates a temporary Wi-Fi network for the transfer.
- Select the content and start. Keep the phones close together and plugged in. Leave Move to iOS open on the Galaxy and wait until the iPhone’s progress indicator finishes. The time depends on how much content you selected.
- Check the result. Look through transferred content, download matched apps from the App Store, sign into your accounts, and manually move music, books, or PDFs.
A direct USB-C connection may also be available, depending on the exact phones and cable. Apple says a cable can make the transfer faster, while Google describes a USB-C cord as more reliable than Wi-Fi. Neither source establishes universal compatibility or a particular speed, so check both phones’ ports and requirements before relying on a cable. A suitable cable you already own may be enough.
Already set up the iPhone?
Apple’s standard Move to iOS route is part of initial setup. If setup is complete, Apple says you need to erase the iPhone and start setup again to use that route. If you do not want to erase it, transfer content manually instead. Before erasing, make sure there is nothing on the iPhone you need to keep without a backup.

Move your number and activate SIM or eSIM
Apple says you may be able to activate your phone number and SIM or eSIM on the iPhone as part of the move, but some activations require you to finish on your carrier’s website. This depends on the carrier, country, and the specific phones; it is not guaranteed for every Galaxy-to-iPhone switch. If activation is not offered during setup, follow your carrier’s instructions and confirm service works before wiping or trading in the Galaxy.

What to expect from messages and chat apps
WhatsApp messages and media are among the categories Apple lists for transfer through Move to iOS. Other messaging experiences depend on the service, carrier, region, software, and the people in each conversation. Apple describes RCS support for richer media and delivery and read receipts with people who do not use iMessage, but that does not establish that every conversation will behave exactly like iMessage. If Move to iOS stalls or stops
Apple’s troubleshooting guidance recommends keeping Move to iOS onscreen and preventing interruptions such as switching apps or receiving a call on Android before the transfer completes. If it stalls, try these steps:
- On the Galaxy, turn off settings or apps that may interfere with Wi-Fi; Apple gives Smart Network Switch as an example.
- Forget saved Wi-Fi networks on Android, then restart both phones.
- Turn off Android cellular data and try the transfer again.
- If only part of the content moved and the iPhone ran out of space, check its available storage. Make sure the selected content fits before repeating the transfer.
Choose an iPhone and evaluate trade-in separately
There is no single best iPhone replacement without knowing your Galaxy model, budget, and priorities. Compare the specific phones you are considering on the factors that affect your move and everyday use:

- Available storage versus the amount of content you plan to move.
- Size and handling, camera and battery needs, and compatibility with your carrier.
- Whether your existing cable and accessories work with the new phone.
Apple’s switch page is for the US and advertises Android smartphone trade-in credit and carrier deals. It does not establish a universal value, eligibility, or promotion. Check the current terms for your country, device condition, carrier, and offer before counting on a discount. Apple says its store staff can help with plan activation and data transfer; that availability also depends on location.

Before handing over the Galaxy, back up anything you still need, confirm the iPhone copy and account access, and follow the trade-in provider’s current instructions for resetting the old phone. Apple’s US page outlines backing up and wiping a phone before trade-in. Samsung’s instructions about turning off iMessage and FaceTime apply to the reverse move—from iPhone to Galaxy—not to switching from Samsung to iPhone.
