Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo move photos onto a Samsung Galaxy microSD card, first confirm your exact phone or tablet supports microSD. Then use My Files to select the images, choose Move, and save them in a folder under SD card. If your device offers it, Gallery also has an album-based route.
Check that your Galaxy supports a microSD card
Not every Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet has a microSD slot. Samsung says, “Not all Samsung devices support MicroSD cards.” Check the specifications for your exact model before buying a card or following these steps: Samsung’s microSD compatibility guidance. Samsung’s regional support information also notes that Galaxy S21 models do not have an SD slot, but that is not a complete compatibility list for current devices: Samsung New Zealand’s file-management guidance.

Once you have confirmed compatibility and inserted a card, the SD card should appear in My Files. The exact screens and labels can differ by model, software version, and region. Samsung’s file-management instructions and microSD support page describe the general process.
Move or copy photos with My Files
My Files is the clearest general-purpose way to transfer selected image files. Move relocates the selected files; Copy leaves the originals where they are and creates another copy on the card.

- Choose the transfer type. Tap Move to relocate the selected originals, or Copy to keep the originals in internal storage too.
- Choose a destination on the card. Return to My Files Home, tap SD card, and open the folder where you want the pictures. Create a folder if your version of the app offers that option.
- Complete the transfer. Tap Move here or Copy here, depending on the action you selected.
- Verify the result. Open the destination folder on the SD card and check that the photos are there before deleting any remaining originals.
The SD card destination is available only when a card is inserted in a device that supports it. If the menu wording differs, Samsung notes that file-management screens may vary between devices and software versions.
Use Gallery’s album route if it is available
Samsung UK documents an alternative that starts in Gallery: create an album on the SD card, then move selected pictures into that album. This option may not appear on every model or software version.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWhy the SD card or photos may be missing
- SD card is not shown in My Files: Check that your exact device supports microSD and that the card is inserted. Samsung says the SD card option appears when a card is inserted; support varies by model. See Samsung’s compatibility guidance.
- You cannot find the pictures: Check the Images category in My Files or browse Internal storage > DCIM > Camera for camera photos. Other apps may save images in different folders.
- You cannot find the Gallery album option: The menu can vary by model and software. Use My Files instead if the Gallery workflow is unavailable.
- You want future camera pictures saved to the card: Some apps offer a storage-location setting, but Samsung says it is not possible to make everything on the device save to an SD card. Check the setting in the relevant app; it is separate from moving existing photos. See Samsung’s SD-card guidance.
Choose a card only after checking the device
A microSD card is useful for this task only if your Galaxy has a compatible slot. The Samsung guidance cited here does not establish one universally appropriate capacity, speed class, brand, or maximum card size. Consult the specifications for your exact model and confirm the card is supported before buying.

Moving photos to a card relocates them; copying creates another copy on that card. Neither action by itself provides a separate backup. If you need a second copy, keep one in another location as well.
