The first two indicate different kinds of corporate ties; a listing as a partner does not establish that Tencent owns a stake in that company.
The overview names nine owned studios and seven invested external studios, rather than verifying an exhaustive list of exactly 14 technology and gaming brands. It also lists seven external partners. The distinctions matter: the overview does not disclose a percentage for every investment, while Tencent’s 2024 annual report gives dated ownership figures for Riot Games and Supercell.

What Tencent’s three categories mean
Tencent’s 2025 corporate overview is a selected portfolio snapshot, not a complete legal register of every company in which Tencent has an interest. Its labels should be read as presented: “Owned Studios,” “Invested External Studios” and “External Partners.”
- Owned studios: Tencent places these studios in its owned-studio category. That classification does not, by itself, provide a percentage stake for each one.
- Invested external studios: Tencent identifies these as external studios in which it has invested. The presentation does not state a stake percentage for every company in this group.
- External partners: These are identified as partners, not as subsidiaries or investments. A partnership listing alone is not evidence of equity ownership.
Studios Tencent lists as owned
The 2025 overview names nine studios in this category. The company names below are studio or company identities, not a claim that each is a standalone consumer-facing game brand.

Two ownership percentages with a stated reporting date
Tencent Holdings Limited’s 2024 annual report reports an interest of 99.33% in Riot Games, Inc. and 90.67% in Supercell Oy for the year ended 31 December 2024. These are figures for that reporting period; they should not be treated as confirmed current percentages for 2026.
External studios Tencent lists as investments
The overview places the following seven companies in its “Invested External Studios” category. This identifies an investment relationship, but the presentation does not provide a percentage stake for each name in the list.

Because the overview does not give percentages for these investments, it cannot establish from the material summarized here whether Tencent has a controlling, minority or other-sized stake in any particular company. “Invested” should not be silently converted into “owns the company.”

Tencent’s overview also names Nintendo, Nexon, Capcom, Take-Two Interactive, EA, Microsoft and Square Enix as external partners. That is a separate category from both owned studios and invested external studios. The partner label alone does not show that Tencent holds shares in these companies.

Why a game’s popularity does not settle who owns its maker
Tencent’s overview reports that its evergreen game portfolio grew from 12 games in 2023 to 14 in 2024. Tencent defines an evergreen game as one with average quarterly daily active users above 5 million on mobile or 2 million on PC, alongside annual gross receipts above RMB 4 billion. These are Tencent’s company-defined criteria and portfolio figures, not a count of companies it owns or invests in. A game’s place in that portfolio therefore should not be used as proof of a particular corporate ownership relationship.
