To transfer files from a phone to a computer without a USB cable, choose a method that supports both devices: use Quick Share for Android and most Windows PCs, AirDrop for nearby Apple devices, or iCloud Drive when you want documents available across devices through the cloud. Android-to-Apple Quick Share sharing is available only on supported models. Nearby sharing generally requires the devices to be close; cloud access requires an account and internet connection.
Choose a wireless transfer method for your phone and computer
| Devices or goal | Method | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Android phone and Windows PC | Google Quick Share for Windows | Install the Windows app. Google’s app is intended for non-Samsung PCs; Samsung PC owners should use Samsung’s Quick Share app. Google Quick Share for Windows |
| Supported Android phone and iPhone, iPad, or Mac nearby | Quick Share with AirDrop interoperability | The Android model must be supported. The Apple recipient sets AirDrop to “Everyone for 10 minutes” and accepts the transfer. Google’s Quick Share instructions |
| Android phone and Apple device when direct sharing is unavailable | Quick Share QR-code delivery | Both devices need internet access; the recipient scans a code and downloads the files in a browser. Files are uploaded to Google servers and available for 24 hours. Google’s QR-code instructions |
| iPhone and Mac or PC for document access | iCloud Drive | Apple documents iCloud Drive as a way to access documents across iPhone, Mac, and PC. It uses cloud storage rather than a nearby direct transfer. Apple’s file-sharing guidance |
| Nearby Apple devices | AirDrop | Apple describes AirDrop as a way to share photos, videos, documents, and more with nearby Apple devices. Apple’s file-sharing guidance |
Nearby transfer and cloud storage solve different problems. A nearby method sends files between compatible devices that are close to each other. A cloud method stores or syncs files for access later or from devices that are not together, and depends on an account and internet access.

Send files between Android and Windows with Quick Share
Google says Quick Share is already installed on Android 6 and later. On the computer, its Windows app supports 64-bit Windows 10 and later, or Windows 11 and later on ARM-based devices. Google’s Windows app is for non-Samsung PCs; Samsung PC owners should use Samsung’s Quick Share app instead. Check Google’s current setup and compatibility guidance if your PC or Android version is unclear.
From Android to Windows
- Install Google’s Quick Share app on the Windows PC and set its device visibility so the phone can find it.
- On the Android phone, open Quick Share, choose the files, and select the PC from the nearby-device list.
- Confirm the recipient is the intended PC and accept the incoming transfer if prompted. Wait for the transfer to finish.
From Windows to Android
- Open Quick Share on the PC and choose the files or folders to send.
- Select the nearby Android phone. Set the phone’s Quick Share visibility so the PC can discover it.
- Accept the request on the phone if prompted, then wait for completion.
Google says Quick Share transfers are protected by end-to-end encryption, and recipients confirm incoming transfers from other users. You control discoverability, so use the visibility setting that fits the transfer and check the device name before accepting. Google Quick Share guidance

Share from Android to an Apple device
Quick Share can work with AirDrop on certain Android models, but this is not a feature to assume every Android phone has. Google’s current support information lists Pixel 8a or later and selected models from Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi, Honor, Transsion, and Motorola. Check the live supported-device details for the exact model.
Use direct sharing when the model is supported
- On the iPhone, iPad, or Mac, set AirDrop visibility to “Everyone for 10 minutes.”
- On Android, open Quick Share, choose the files, and select the nearby Apple device.
- Accept the AirDrop notification on the Apple device and wait for the files to arrive.
Google announced the interoperability on November 20, 2025, saying it was “introducing a way for Quick Share to work with AirDrop.” The announcement and current model details are available from Google’s Android announcement.

Use a QR code if direct sharing is unavailable
Google’s QR-code route lets an Apple-device recipient scan a code and download files in a browser. Both devices need internet access. Google says files are uploaded to its servers, end-to-end encrypted, not counted against personal Google Drive storage, and available for 24 hours. Mobile data charges may apply if you are not using Wi-Fi.
Google lists these limits for sending to Apple devices: up to 10 GB every 24 hours, up to 1,000 files in one sharing session, and up to 20 Apple-device recipients at one time. These are product limits, not independent speed or performance measurements. See Google’s current instructions and limits.

Move documents from an iPhone to a computer
For ongoing wireless access to documents on an iPhone and a Mac or PC, use iCloud Drive. Apple identifies it as a way to access documents securely from iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or PC. This is a cloud route, so it is suited to access across devices rather than a one-time nearby handoff. Follow Apple’s iCloud Drive and file-sharing guidance for the relevant devices.
AirDrop is Apple’s nearby option when the receiving computer is a Mac. The cited Apple guidance also describes Handoff and iPhone Mirroring, but Handoff is for continuing supported work across devices, not a general-purpose file manager. Apple’s Finder File Sharing instructions on that page require USB, so they do not provide a cable-free method.

Check these settings if a device does not appear
- Confirm compatibility: Google Quick Share for Windows has specific Windows requirements and is intended for non-Samsung PCs. Android-to-Apple direct sharing requires a supported Android model.
- Review discoverability: Make the receiving device visible using the relevant Quick Share or AirDrop setting. For Android-to-Apple direct sharing, the Apple device must use “Everyone for 10 minutes.”
- Verify the recipient: Check the displayed device name and accept only the transfer you intended to receive.
- For QR delivery, check internet access: Both devices need it, and the recipient must scan the code and download through a browser.
- For continuing access, choose cloud storage: Use iCloud Drive for Apple-documented cross-device document access rather than expecting a nearby-transfer feature to keep files in sync.
