In desktop Word for Windows, the simplest way to move a page’s content is to drag its heading in the Navigation pane. Word moves the section associated with that heading; it does not treat a page as a separate object you can drag. If the content has no usable heading, or you’re using Word for the web, cut and paste it instead.
Move a headed section in Word for Windows
This method is documented for Word for Windows, including Microsoft 365 and Word 2024, 2021, 2019, and 2016. The Navigation pane lists headings that use Word’s heading styles, and dragging a heading reorders the part of the document associated with it. See Microsoft’s Navigation pane instructions.

Review the document at the new location to confirm the section is where you intended.
This works best when the content you want to move is organized under a heading. The pane’s list is based on heading styles, not simply on text that looks like a title.

What to do if the page or section has no heading
If the heading does not appear in the Navigation pane, it may not have a Word heading style. Microsoft’s guidance explains how to apply a heading style. Use one only if it accurately reflects the document’s structure; you do not need to change the formatting just to move a block of text.

Move content in Word for the web
Word for the web does not offer the desktop Navigation pane feature, according to Microsoft’s browser-versus-desktop feature comparison. In editing or reviewing mode, select the content, press Ctrl+X on Windows or Command+X on Mac, click the destination, then press Ctrl+V or Command+V. Microsoft documents these clipboard actions for Office for the web and lists the Word web app keyboard shortcuts.
If you are in Reading mode and cannot select the text as needed, switch to editing mode before cutting and repositioning it. The web and desktop versions do not have identical navigation controls, so do not expect the Windows heading-drag method to be available in the browser.

Moving text is different from moving a picture or shape
If you mean a picture, shape, or text box rather than the page’s text, use the object’s selection and arrangement controls. Microsoft provides separate steps for selecting a shape or other object in Word. Reordering a section of document text and repositioning a floating object are different tasks.

Check the layout after the move
After moving content, inspect the paragraphs immediately before and after it, along with any lists, images, and page breaks. Confirm that related material stayed together and that the document still reads correctly. A page may reflow when content is moved, so the resulting page boundaries may differ from the original ones.
