Motorola’s published care guidance explains how to protect the hinge and flexible display, but the official sources reviewed do not give a fold-cycle rating. Because “Motorola Razr” covers multiple generations, a number would need to be tied to a specific model and supported by a model-specific Motorola source.
Why there is no single fold-count answer
Different Razr generations may use different hinge and display designs, so a cycle claim for one model cannot automatically be applied to another. Motorola’s general Razr care guidance and the Razr 2024 user guide provide handling instructions, not a numerical fold-life promise.

An owner discussion repeats a 400,000-cycle figure for a Razr+, but does not cite Motorola documentation establishing it as an official specification. Treat it as an unverified claim, not a guarantee: the discussion is anecdotal, not a manufacturer rating or a reliability study.

The newer book-style Razr Fold is a separate form factor. Motorola’s Razr Fold hardware guidance warns that dust can affect the hinge and display, but the reviewed passage does not state a cycle count. Motorola’s Razr Fold announcement mentions internal testing without providing a fold-cycle figure in the reviewed text.

What a fold-cycle rating would—and would not—tell you
If Motorola publishes a count for a particular model, check what was cycled and how the figure was established. A controlled hinge-cycle test is not the same as a prediction that every owner’s phone will last that many everyday folds. It also cannot be converted directly into years without assumptions about how often the owner opens and closes the phone.
Keep the figure’s context attached to it: the exact model, source, test conditions, and whether it describes a test threshold or expected service life. Without that information, a precise number can sound more definitive than the evidence allows.

How to reduce avoidable hinge and screen damage
- Keep grit and dust away. Motorola warns that dust can reduce hinge life and damage the display. Before closing the phone, check for debris between the screens and around the hinge.
- Do not force the hinge. Open the phone within its designed range; Motorola warns against pushing it beyond its limit.
- Keep objects out of the fold. Do not close the phone on a card, coin, key, or other object, and avoid pressing the flexible inner display with sharp objects.
- Leave the factory inner-screen protector in place. The Razr 2024 guide says not to install a third-party protector. If the installed protector bubbles, warps, or separates, contact an authorized Motorola service center rather than removing or replacing it yourself.
Which fold-area changes can be normal?
Motorola says a flexible display is designed to fold and that slight waviness where it folds can be normal. Hinge or display sounds during movement can also occur in normal use, according to its care guidance. Those general statements do not mean every sound or screen change is harmless; if a problem worsens or the display appears damaged, contact Motorola support or an authorized service center.

The Razr 2024 and Razr Fold guides describe fresh-water submersion up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes under controlled laboratory conditions. Those figures concern water resistance, not hinge cycles. The Razr 2024 guide also says the phone is not dust proof; the Razr Fold guidance says water resistance decreases with normal wear. None of these statements establishes how many times either phone can be folded.
