Motion Assist adds small moving bubbles along the edges of your screen to provide visual cues during vehicle travel. To find it, open Settings > profile > All services > Personal & device safety > Motion assist, or search Settings for “Motion assist.” Google says it requires Android 17 or later and updated Google Play Services. The feature is intended to make phone use while traveling more comfortable; it is not a guaranteed way to prevent or relieve motion sickness.
What Motion Assist does
Motion Assist displays subtle bubbles near the screen edges. Using the phone’s motion sensors, they move in response to vehicle turns, acceleration, and braking. The visual cues are intended to help align what you see with what your body feels while traveling. Google does not promise that the feature will prevent or cure motion sickness, and its help page does not provide clinical-study results or measured efficacy figures.

Google’s stated requirements are an Android device running Android 17 or higher and updated Google Play Services. Its help page does not identify specific compatible phone models. Check your own device’s Settings before assuming the feature is available; do not assume every Android phone supports it.

Find Motion Assist in Settings
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap your profile, then tap All services.
- Under Personal & device safety, tap Motion assist.
You can also search for “Motion assist” using the search field at the top of Settings. If the setting does not appear, your device may not meet the documented requirements or the feature may not be available on it.
Turn it on and add a manual control
Enable automatic activation
On the Motion Assist settings page, turn on Start in a moving vehicle. This setting relies on vehicle-motion detection, which may not always recognize that the device is in a moving vehicle.

Add the Quick Settings tile
For manual access when automatic detection does not start the feature, add the Motion Assist tile to Quick Settings. You can add it from the Motion Assist settings page or open the Quick Settings edit menu and add it there. Choose the small or large tile format.

When Motion Assist starts automatically, a silent notification appears. Tap that notification to turn the feature off for that session.

Customize the bubbles
Open Settings > profile > All services > Personal & device safety > Motion assist, then select Customize. The page provides a live preview as you adjust:
- Opacity, to make the bubbles more or less visible.
- Color theme and shape, to change their appearance.
- Randomization, which changes the bubbles’ color and shape every few seconds.
