Similarweb’s analysis of August 2026 placed these five domains at the top of its worldwide ranking. Visit totals are rounded estimates reported by Similarweb for that month.

The figures are estimated visits to websites, not unique people. One person can make multiple visits, and a visit total does not tell you how many distinct users reached a domain. Similarweb’s Top Websites documentation also says the ranking covers a site’s main domain and its subdomains.

Rank is a relative position, not a direct audience count. Similarweb says its calculation combines estimates of monthly unique visitors and monthly pageviews across desktop and mobile web traffic. Its Knowledge Center describes this as “a mix of our estimations of a site’s monthly unique visitors and monthly pageviews across desktop and mobile web traffic.” The estimate is not a first-party audited count of all users.
How to compare website rankings fairly
Similarweb updates its rankings monthly, and its Top Websites view can be filtered by geography, category and traffic scope, including all traffic, desktop or mobile. A global all-traffic ranking should not be compared as if it measured the same thing as a country-specific or desktop-only list.

- Keep traffic scope consistent: all traffic, desktop and mobile views can differ.
- Read estimated visits separately from rank; the rank is relative, while visits are a traffic estimate.
- Do not treat engagement indicators such as visit duration, pages per visit or bounce rate as the inputs to the ranking. Similarweb displays those fields, but describes the ranking calculation in terms of estimated unique visitors and pageviews.
Because the ranking refreshes monthly, positions can change without an equivalent change in the number of unique people using a site. Estimated traffic and the comparison set can shift, and repeated visits remain part of the visit total.

The leaders span several kinds of online destination: Google is a search domain, YouTube a video platform, Facebook and Instagram social networks, and ChatGPT a conversational AI service. Their proximity in this web-domain ranking shows that each attracts substantial estimated web traffic; it does not make their total audiences or app use directly comparable.
