There is no supported single winner for the most accurate 3D printer: accuracy depends on the part, the measurement, the material and the print process. The useful comparison is not a broad “best printer” label, but whether a machine can repeatedly make your features within the tolerance your application requires.
What does “accurate” mean for a 3D printer?
Accuracy is not one specification. A printer can reproduce a part’s overall dimensions closely while missing small details, or produce fine surface features without holding a critical hole or shaft to its intended size. Before comparing machines, decide what result matters.

- Dimensional accuracy: how closely measured dimensions match the reference CAD model, such as the width of a slot or diameter of a hole.
- Surface deviation: how far the printed surface lies from the CAD surface across the model. This can matter for models that need a close fit or a smooth, faithful shape.
- Feature resolution: the smallest details the printer can reproduce. A fine layer height or small pixel size does not, by itself, establish dimensional accuracy.
- Repeatability: whether multiple prints made under the same conditions produce similar measurements. One successful print is not enough to establish consistency.
XY tolerance describes variation in the horizontal plane; it is not a complete statement of accuracy in every direction or for every geometry. A result measured on a small feature also should not be assumed to apply to a large part.

Formlabs publishes Form 4 XY tolerance figures on its 3D printer comparison page. These are manufacturer-reported results, not a shared independent test against other brands. Formlabs says its tolerance test used Grey Resin V5 at a 100 µm layer height, followed by a five-minute post-cure at room temperature; one test model was printed on three different printers.

| Form 4 feature size | Formlabs-published typical XY tolerance |
|---|---|
| 1–30 mm | ±0.15%, with a lower limit of ±0.02 mm |
| 31–80 mm | ±0.2%, with a lower limit of ±0.06 mm |
| 81–150 mm | ±0.3%, with a lower limit of ±0.15 mm |
The feature-size bands and lower limits matter: do not compare the percentage alone or apply one row to a feature outside its stated range. The figures also belong to the stated resin, layer-height and post-cure conditions; they are not a promise for every material, geometry or workflow.
Formlabs separately reports surface results for restorative models made with Precision Model Resin. The percentages below are the manufacturer’s reported share of surfaces within each distance of the CAD model. They measure a different outcome from the XY tolerance figures above.

- Creality K2 Plus

- Bambu Lab H2S
- Original Prusa Core One
- Bambu Lab P2S
- Bambu Lab H2C
This is a useful shortlist for further research, not a standardized dimensional-accuracy leaderboard. The roundup does not provide one common, numeric cross-category accuracy result that establishes an overall winner. Treat its selections as editorial candidates and check the exact model’s specifications, supported materials and test evidence against your own part requirements.
How should you compare printers for your application?
1. Start with the part and its tolerance
Identify the dimensions that must fit or align, the smallest features that matter, and the acceptable deviation for each. A miniature, a functional bracket and a restorative model call for different checks. If the application requires a particular tolerance, write it down before choosing a machine; a general claim such as “high precision” cannot show whether that requirement is met.

- Smart Airflow for Any Filament: The Adaptive Airflow System automatically balances cooling and heat retention—keeping overhangs crisp with cool air, or maintaining a 50 °C chamber for engineering-grade materials. A carbon filter ensures clean, safe air while you print.
- Limitless Creativity, Seamless Workflow: Explore over one million 3D models on MakerWorld and bring them to life with a smooth, unified workflow using Bambu Studio, Bambu Handy, and your FDM 3D printer, from design to finished print.
2. Compare like print processes and materials
FDM and resin printers use different workflows and materials, so a result from one should not be ranked directly against a result from the other without a shared test protocol. Compare machines using the material and settings you expect to use. Layer height, orientation, slicer profile, temperature or curing, and calibration can all affect the result.
3. Look for a documented measurement
A useful accuracy result should say what was measured and how. Look for the reference CAD file, feature size, axis or surface measure, instrument or scan method, material, settings, calibration state and whether the part was measured before or after post-processing. If these details are missing, the number may not answer your question.

4. Check repeatability, not just one close match
Ask whether several copies were printed and measured under the same conditions. A single part that happens to match its model does not show how much results vary from print to print. For a demanding fit, make a small test part with the relevant holes, slots or mating surfaces before committing to a full-size job.
5. Include practical constraints
Accuracy is only useful if the printer can make your part. Check build volume, material compatibility, operating and post-processing requirements, and whether your geometry fits the machine’s process. A machine with an impressive result for one test model may still be unsuitable for your material or part size.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can one printer be called the most accurate?
Not from the available comparisons. Formlabs publishes detailed, condition-specific figures for two of its resin printers, while TechRadar Pro’s 2025 selection identifies several high-precision candidates without reporting a common dimensional-accuracy dataset across them. Those sources answer different questions; neither establishes a universal winner across desktop FDM and resin printers.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor a purchase decision, choose the printer whose documented results match your material, feature sizes and required tolerance, then verify those results with repeat prints of a representative test part.
