To get the Obsidian Lathe in Mortal Shell 2, head southeast from the Widow’s Overlook Beacon to Martyr’s Tomb and loot the chest in the rear room. Then return to Marrow Keep and hand the Lathe to Franz at the Tarforge to unlock sidearm enhancements.
Where to find the Obsidian Lathe
- Start at the Widow’s Overlook Beacon and travel southeast to Martyr’s Tomb. The route and chest location are described in the PowerPyx Tarforge upgrade guide.
- Make your way through the tomb to its rear room. The chest containing the Lathe is behind a chamber that must be opened with a switch. A route walkthrough places the switch near a glowing, branch-like structure and also describes it as hidden behind breakable boxes; use those as visual cues rather than guaranteed landmarks. See the MortalShell2.games weapon-upgrade route.
- Open the chest to collect the Obsidian Lathe. The same walkthrough reports a Parasitic Stone in the chest as an additional reward.
If the room door closes behind you
The route walkthrough says to shoot the mechanism above the exit door to reopen it. This is guide-reported advice; the room and mechanism details have not been independently verified here.

How to unlock sidearm upgrades
- Return to Marrow Keep with the Obsidian Lathe.
- Find Franz at the Tarforge and hand him the Lathe. This adds sidearm enhancements to the Tarforge’s available options, as described in Nerd’s Chalk’s Obsidian Lathe guide.
- Select a sidearm enhancement at the Tarforge and pay the required coins and crafting materials. The available walkthrough does not specify the costs, so check the displayed requirement for the upgrade you choose.
What the Obsidian Lathe upgrades
The Lathe unlocks sidearm ranks or enhancements; it is not the item used for melee weapon upgrades. For the separate melee upgrade lane, the guides identify the Muradean Actuator. The distinction between weapon and sidearm unlocks is also covered in All Things How’s upgrade guide.
