A detailed route guide says you must first obtain Mether’s Breath and use it to clear a corruption barrier at Marrow Keep. The stone is a Support Tarstone that improves melee Critical Damage, though published guides disagree about its level-by-level values.
Where to find the Headsman’s Stone
Look for the chest in the ruins near a large tree in or near Road to Absolution, southeast of the Outskirts of Mammon Beacon. Two guides broadly agree on the ruins-and-tree landmark. Nerd’s Chalk gives the more detailed route and says the chest is behind the tree; PowerPyx describes it as beside a tree near the northeastern part of the ruins. Nerd’s Chalk’s location guide and PowerPyx’s all-Tarstones guide were updated August 21 and August 17, 2026, respectively.

How to reach the chest
The following sequence is reported by Nerd’s Chalk. The Mether’s Breath requirement is not independently confirmed by the broader PowerPyx location guide.
- Get Mether’s Breath: Progress through the game, collect Ovum, then return to the Gloom Siphon in Marrow Keep and turn in Ovum.
- Clear the Marrow Keep barrier: Return to upper Marrow Keep, ride the central lift, and enter the circular chamber. Use Mether’s Breath on the black branch corruption barrier.
- Travel to Outskirts of Mammon: Go through the portal opened by the cleared barrier and select Outskirts of Mammon.
- Follow the road down: From the beacon, take the descending road into Road to Absolution.
- Find the chest: Drop from the stone edge to the lower grassy cliffside path. Circle the large tree toward the stone altar structure and nearby ruins, then check the chest behind the tree.
The guide says fights on the approach can be skipped if you only want to collect the Tarstone.

What the Headsman’s Stone does
It is categorized as a Support Tarstone, and its reported effect is to increase melee Critical Damage. That makes it most relevant to a melee setup that lands critical hits; the damage bonus has no described benefit for attacks that do not crit. Nerd’s Chalk suggests pairing it with effects that increase melee critical chance or guarantee critical attacks, but that is a build suggestion rather than an independently tested result.
Why published level values conflict
Do not rely on a single published level table as definitive. Nerd’s Chalk reports +5% melee Critical Damage at Level 1, followed by +50%, +80%, and +100% at Levels 2, 3, and 4. Another wiki lists +50%, +80%, and +100% at Levels 1, 2, and 3. The accounts therefore disagree both on the Level 1 value and on level indexing.

A beta-client page describes the effect but explicitly limits its information to Open Beta build 24459107, checked August 18, 2026; it does not establish final retail balance or numeric values. Check the current in-game Tarstone screen for the value in your version rather than treating either secondary-source table as settled. The wiki’s Headsman’s Stone entry provides the alternative level listing, and the beta-client page states its snapshot limitations.
Spelling to use when searching
This article uses “Headsman’s Stone,” the spelling used by Nerd’s Chalk and the beta snapshot. PowerPyx spells it “Headman’s Stone,” so searching that variant may also help locate its guide entry.
