Which version of Mortal Kombat 9 do you mean?
Mortal Kombat (2011), often called MK9, has a legacy native Windows release titled Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition. Separately, you can attempt to run the PlayStation 3 version through the RPCS3 emulator. These are distinct routes with different requirements: Steam lists hardware for the Windows edition, while RPCS3 publishes guidance for running games generally.

Steam Support lists the following specifications for the Windows release. They are historical published requirements, not a current-PC benchmark.

Steam also lists broadband internet under “Other Requirements” for both tiers. Its page says Windows XP and DirectX 9.0c and below are unsupported. Steam Support notes that the Steam client has supported Windows 10 and later since January 1, 2024; that client requirement is separate from the older operating systems listed for the game and does not certify the game’s operation on current Windows releases. RPCS3 minimum specs versus recommended hardware
RPCS3 distinguishes the minimum needed to try running games from desktop hardware it recommends for playable performance across games it classifies as playable. The minimum is not a smooth-play target: RPCS3 says the minimum configuration carries no performance or stability guarantees. It also warns that CPUs without AVX2 and with fewer than four cores/eight threads are expected to perform very badly.

RPCS3’s listed recommended desktop operating systems are Windows 10 22H2 or newer / Windows 11 22H2 or newer, Linux 6.5 or 6.1 LTS or newer, macOS Monterey 12.6 or newer, and FreeBSD 13.2 or newer. Its separate minimum OS list is Windows 10 or 11, Linux 5.4 or Ubuntu 20.04 or newer, macOS Monterey 12.0 or newer, or FreeBSD 12.4 or newer. A 64-bit operating system is required. Do RPCS3’s specs prove MK9 will work?
No. The general requirements describe the emulator, not a tested result for Mortal Kombat 9. A PC meeting the recommended guidance may be a stronger starting point, but it does not establish that MK9 is currently playable, free of serious glitches, or capable of a particular frame rate.

RPCS3 defines “Playable” as games that can be completed with playable performance and no game-breaking glitches. “Ingame” includes games that cannot be finished, have serious glitches, or have insufficient performance. Those definitions—and a whole-library category—cannot stand in for the game’s own current entry. Check the RPCS3 compatibility list for a title-specific report before choosing this route. The sources cited here do not confirm MK9’s current entry or performance, so no region-specific recommendation or expected frame rate can be given.

What you need to use RPCS3 with a PS3 game
RPCS3 does not supply the game or official PlayStation 3 system software. Its Quickstart says PS3 firmware is required and directs users to obtain the firmware update from PlayStation’s official site; RPCS3 cannot distribute official firmware files. The game must be self-dumped from your own PS3 console or from a computer with a compatible Blu-ray drive, and only select drives can read PS3-format discs. Applicable software-distribution laws vary by country.
