There is no single best The Sims 4 expansion for everyone. Choose Seasons for weather and calendar events that touch ordinary play, Cottage Living for rural life, City Living for apartments and festivals, Cats & Dogs for pets, or Life & Death for supernatural stories and end-of-life themes.
EA describes Expansion Packs as “large packs that build on The Sims 4 to take your Sims on new adventures.” The right one is the pack whose main gameplay loop you’ll actually want to return to. Browse EA’s official Expansion Pack catalog for current listings in your region and on your platform.

How each recommended pack changes your game
Seasons: weather and events woven into everyday life
Choose Seasons if you want the calendar and changing conditions to shape ordinary routines, rather than adding only a separate setting or specialized story. GamesRadar highlights weather, holidays, seasonal events, and a gardening career, and ranked Seasons first in its July 2026 guide. That makes it a broad pick for players who want variety across many households, but the ranking is an editorial preference—not a guarantee it will suit your play style.
#1 Best Overall
- Requires The Sims 4 & all game updates. For PC, see minimum system requirements for the pack.
- Create Vampires
- Unleash Supernatural Powers
- Escape to Forgotten Hollow
- Live the Immortal Life
Cottage Living: a rural routine built around the countryside
Cottage Living is the fit for players drawn to farm-oriented and village life. GamesRadar points to animals, crops, errands, fairs, and Henford-on-Bagley. Consider it when tending a rural household and engaging with a small-town setting sound more appealing than adding city apartments or supernatural storytelling.
City Living: apartments, festivals, and an urban setting
City Living centers on San Myshuno and apartment life. The guide highlights festivals, food stalls, karaoke, apartment-specific hassles, and work-from-home career options. It is the most direct match here if you want your Sims’ home and social life to feel city-focused.
Rank #2
- Requires The Sims 4 & all game updates. For PC, see minimum system requirements for the pack.
- Rule your story: Build a powerful Dynasty, shape shared Values, choose an Heir, or exile family members in a deep life simulation driven by legacy, prestige, and choice.
- Claim the crown: Rise through Nobility by winning the people, pleasing rival Nobles, dueling with swords, or exposing Scandals that can change the balance of power.
- Scandal fuels drama: Forbidden romances, secret children, and public disgrace can impact careers, relationships, Dynasty Prestige, and Noble Favor.
Cats & Dogs: make pets central to household life
Choose Cats & Dogs if you want to create cats and dogs, build relationships with them, and explore veterinary clinic gameplay. GamesRadar also calls out pet personalities and bonds, making this the clearest choice for players whose stories revolve around animal companions and their care.
Life & Death: supernatural stories and mortality
Life & Death is for players who want ghostly and end-of-life themes. GamesRadar lists ghosts, funerals, wills, a mortician career, and crypts among its additions. It is a more focused thematic choice than Seasons’ everyday events, so pick it because that subject matter appeals to you.
Rank #3
- Requires The Sims 4 & all game updates. For PC, see minimum system requirements for the pack.
- Fairy Garden Digital Content
- Life Among the Trees- Step outside and make yourself at home in nature.
- The Fairest Folk - Do you feel nature’s mystical pull? Embark on a special journey and become a Fairy
- A Balanced Lifestyle - Prolonged negative emotions cause imbalance, and imbalance can lead to Ailments with strange effects
Check the current catalog before buying
EA’s official store lists Expansion Packs, including products such as Royalty & Legacy, Cottage Living, City Living, and Get Together. The catalog can change, and listings, prices, promotions, and availability may vary by region or platform. Check the storefront for your location and system before deciding; the GamesRadar guide’s count of 21 expansion packs was its editorial count at publication in 2026, not a permanent EA-reported total.
