To play Hilo at Moonspin, you look at the current card, set a bet, and choose whether the next card will be Higher or Same or Lower or Same than it. The next card is revealed after you choose, and your payout depends on the multiplier shown for that choice and your initial bet. Moonspin’s Hilo page describes the game as chance-based, with a standard 52-card deck where Ace is lowest and King is highest.
How a Hilo round works
- Open Moonspin’s Hilo game page and check which coin balance the game is using. Standard Play uses Gold Coins; the coin modes are explained further down.
- Set your bet. Moonspin’s page lists a minimum bet of 10 Gold Coins. Use the Min and Max controls, or the buttons that halve or double the amount, within your available balance.
- Read the initial card. Ranking runs from Ace (lowest) through King (highest).
- Before you confirm, read the probability of winning and the multiplier the interface shows for the choice you are considering.
- Select Higher or Same or Lower or Same.
- The next card is revealed. The multiplier is applied to your initial bet to determine the payout shown for that round.
Higher or Same and Lower or Same
Moonspin’s labels include the word “same,” and it is worth using them exactly as written rather than shortening them to “higher” and “lower.”

Higher or Same
This choice covers a next card that is higher than the current card, or equal in rank to it. It is the option to pick when you expect the next card to be at least as strong as the one on the table.

#1 Best Overall
- HiLo can have you flying high, although youd rather keep your cards low;
- The highly addictive, quick playing card game;
- The player with the fewest points at the end of the game wins!;
- Suitable for 2-6 players aged 8+.
Because the two choices are priced separately, the probability and multiplier displayed for each can differ. Read the figures for the choice you select before confirming.
What “same” means and what happens on a tie
Moonspin’s page describes a standard 52-card deck, so the natural reading of “same” is a card of the same rank as the current card. The page’s wording does not spell out whether suit matters, and it does not show a worked example of a tie. The label implies that a same-rank card counts toward the choice that includes “same,” but confirm how the round reports a tie in the game’s result text the first time you play.

Reading the probability and multiplier
The probability is the chance of winning that Moonspin displays for the choice you are considering. The multiplier is the factor applied to your bet. Together they show the trade-off the interface is presenting: the figures are information Moonspin displays for each round, not a guarantee of any result.

Is Hilo available with Sweep Coins?
Moonspin’s terms separate two play modes. Standard Play uses Gold Coins, and Promotional Play uses Sweep Coins. The two are not interchangeable bets, and they are treated differently under the rules.
| Feature | Standard Play | Promotional Play |
|---|---|---|
| Coin used | Gold Coins | Sweep Coins |
| Can you win prizes? | No. Moonspin’s terms say users cannot win prizes in Standard Play. | Sweep Coins are sweepstakes entries that may be redeemed for prizes, subject to the rules. |
| Purchase requirement | Not stated specifically for Gold Coins. The terms say no purchase is required to set up an account or play. | The Sweepstakes Rules state that no purchase or payment is necessary to participate. |
| Governing document | Moonspin US terms (last updated October 23, 2025) | Sweepstakes Rules (last updated March 2, 2026) |
Moonspin’s pages reviewed for this guide do not confirm whether Hilo accepts Sweep Coins. The Hilo page describes its minimum bet in Gold Coins, so check the coin selector on the live game page before you play in Promotional Play. Individual games may also carry their own rules, and eligibility provisions in the Sweepstakes Rules apply to any redemption.

The 95% RTP listing
Moonspin’s Games Info listing shows Hilo under the RTP (%) column at 95, categorised as an Original. The figure is 95% RTP — Moonspin, year not stated on the Games Info page. It is a platform-published figure, and the pages reviewed do not provide independent verification, an audit of Hilo, or the methodology behind it.
RTP is a long-run figure across many rounds. It does not mean a player will receive 95% back in a single session, and it does not make any particular round more or less likely to pay.

Randomness and responsible play
Moonspin’s official Hilo page states: “The outcome of each round is totally random and independent of previous results.” A streak, a pattern in earlier cards, or a hunch about what comes next has no bearing on the next draw, so the choice between higher and lower is a judgement about odds the game displays, not a prediction. Hilo is not a dependable way to make money.
Moonspin’s responsible gameplay policy, last modified May 25, 2023, says outcomes cannot be predicted from past or future results. It lists tools including account and gameplay history, purchase and play limits, breaks, and self-exclusion. It also recommends setting a budget and time limit and playing within your means. Because the policy page was last modified in May 2023, check the live page before relying on the description of its tools.
This guide describes Moonspin’s published rules and displayed features. It is not based on test sessions, and it does not establish an independent audit of the game.
