Its reported feature set is broad, but its compatibility and installation details should be checked against the current release before you download it: the available project description is article-era information, not a verified account of the latest build.
What MoniMac is designed to do
MoniMac is presented as a native Swift app for people who want system activity visible without keeping Activity Monitor open. The author describes selectable CPU, memory, GPU, network, and temperature items in the menu bar. Each can display a value, a graph, or both; the graphs are described as 60-second sparklines. Items can be reordered or hidden, and can indicate warnings.

A popover is described as bringing together current metrics and the busiest apps. Its views cover CPU, memory, GPU, network, disk, and battery, with live history, per-core CPU load, and lists of top apps. These are the author’s reported features; they have not been independently verified here.
Where its diagnostics go beyond a menu-bar readout
Resource use by app
The author says MoniMac attributes CPU, memory, GPU, network, disk, and power use to individual apps, grouping helper processes with their parent app. That distinction can make a busy app easier to identify when its work is split across several background processes.
#1 Best Overall
- Apple-designed M1 chip for a giant leap in CPU, GPU, and machine learning performance
- 8-core CPU packs up to 3x faster performance to fly through workflows quicker than ever*
- 8-core GPU with up to 6x faster graphics for graphics-intensive apps and games*
- 16-core Neural Engine for advanced machine learning
- 8GB of unified memory so everything you do is fast and fluid
Warnings and app controls
Described alerts cover sustained high CPU use, rapid memory growth, heavy disk writes, and background uploads. The project description gives CPU remaining above a threshold for two minutes and memory growth of 1 GB in 10 minutes as examples, not universal defaults or independently measured behavior. A quit sheet is said to ask an app to exit normally rather than forcing it closed.
Battery, devices, and sensors
Other listed details include battery information, Bluetooth device charge levels, per-app volume, sensor temperatures, and fan speeds. Availability and readings for hardware-specific sensors can vary by Mac, and the description does not establish that every listed reading is available on every model.

What the developer-server finder is for
MoniMac’s Projects view is aimed at developers with local development servers that can be easy to forget after a task ends. The author describes it finding servers, grouping them by repository, showing each server’s port, uptime, and memory use, flagging servers that have been idle for days, and offering one-click stopping. This could help locate lingering processes, but the project description does not establish how comprehensively it detects servers across different tools or configurations.

Compatibility and installation need a release check
The project description reports Apple silicon Macs (M1 or later), macOS 14.2 or later, and no Intel support. Treat those as the requirements reported for the described version, not confirmed requirements for the current release. Check the release notes and download instructions for your Mac’s processor and macOS version before installing.

The article-era installation instructions describe downloading a DMG from GitHub Releases and moving MoniMac to Applications. They also describe removing the quarantine attribute in Terminal because the app was not notarized at the time. Do not assume that workaround is needed—or safe to apply to a later release. First check the current release’s signing and notarization status and follow its current instructions. If macOS warns that an app cannot be verified, do not bypass the warning unless you have confirmed the download’s source and the developer’s current guidance.

| Option | What the project information establishes | Useful distinction |
|---|---|---|
| MoniMac | Its author describes menu-bar metrics, per-app resource attribution, alerts, and a local development-server finder. The described article reports Apple silicon and macOS 14.2 or later; current compatibility is not verified. | The reported combination of app-level diagnostics and developer-server discovery is its distinguishing pitch. |
| Stats | Its official project README describes CPU, GPU, memory, disk, network, battery, sensor, and Bluetooth information; macOS 12 or newer; manual DMG and Homebrew installation; and an MIT license. | A documented open-source alternative with a stated lower macOS minimum. Its README says unsolicited pull requests are generally not accepted, while translations and language fixes are welcome. |
| Activity Monitor | Not stated in the project information used for this comparison. | Compare its current built-in views with the particular menu-bar and app-level details you need. |
| iStat Menus | Not stated in the project information used for this comparison. | Check its current documentation directly before comparing feature coverage or compatibility. |
For a practical choice, check the current supported macOS versions and processor architectures first. Then consider which metrics you want persistently in the menu bar, whether per-app history matters, and whether finding local servers is useful to you. Signing and notarization affect installation friction; project maturity and maintenance matter if you depend on the tool. The MoniMac description labels its release v0.1.1 and calls it early, but that is article-era context rather than confirmation of its current release status.
