Disney President and Chief Creative Officer Dana Walden said that buying all of Epic is not what the companies are talking about now. Disney does already hold an equity stake in Epic following its $1.5 billion investment in 2024, and Walden says more partnership launches are expected over the next two years.
Is Disney buying Epic Games?
Not according to Walden’s recent comments, reported by Insider Gaming. Asked about Disney buying all of Epic Games, she said: “Those are not the conversations we’re having right now.” She also described the relationship as a “great partnership” and said the companies have a number of launches coming in the next two years.
That answers the current question, not every possibility in the future. The available statements do not rule out a change in ownership at some later date; they establish that a full buyout is not what the companies are discussing now.
Did Disney buy Fortnite or invest in Epic?
Disney did not buy Fortnite or Epic Games. On February 7, 2024, The Walt Disney Company announced a $1.5 billion investment for an equity stake in Epic Games. Disney and Epic also announced a multiyear collaboration to build a games and entertainment universe connected to Fortnite.

An equity stake means Disney has an ownership interest in Epic, but it is not the same as owning the whole company. The announced investment is the confirmed basis for Disney’s stake; it does not mean Disney owns Fortnite outright.
What is the Disney-Epic partnership meant to create?
The central project is a persistent, open and interoperable universe connected with Fortnite. Disney’s announcement describes a space spanning Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and Avatar stories and characters. The intended activities include playing, watching, shopping, creating and engaging with content.
This is broader in scope than a single character skin or time-limited event: it is an announced long-term digital-world collaboration. The announcement describes the ambition, but does not supply a complete public schedule of features or launch dates.

What Disney collaborations are already in Fortnite?
Insider Gaming points to existing Fortnite integrations involving The Incredibles, Pirates of the Caribbean, Maleficent, Captain Hook, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Toy Story. It also cites a Marvel-themed Chapter 5 Season 4 and Star Wars-focused content in Chapter 6.
These examples show that Disney properties have appeared in Fortnite through collaboration and licensing. They do not establish that every rumored character, season, or film tie-in will happen, nor do they by themselves confirm the launch of the larger persistent universe.
What new Disney-Fortnite collaborations are coming, and when?
Walden said the companies have “a number of launches coming up in the next two years” that she expects to demonstrate the partnership’s value. That is a forward-looking statement, not a dated release calendar. The public information cited here does not identify every launch, give specific dates, or confirm a complete slate of upcoming characters and events.

Accordingly, proposed tie-ins tied to a particular Fortnite season or film—including speculation about Chapter 8 or Avengers: Doomsday—should be treated as unconfirmed unless Disney or Epic announces them.

The investment and the planned Fortnite-connected universe point to a strategic relationship that goes beyond acquiring an equity stake. Disney’s stated project aims to bring its franchises into an interactive environment where audiences can play, watch, create and engage, with shopping for digital and physical goods also part of the announced vision.

Who at Disney oversees the Epic collaboration?
In its March 2026 leadership announcement, Disney said Sean Shoptaw oversees the Games and Digital Entertainment organisation, including its collaboration with Epic Games to develop a Disney universe connected to Fortnite. This indicates organisational continuity for the project; it does not add launch dates or change the ownership status described above.
