Modified Cobblemon Plus is a versioned Minecraft Java Edition modpack built around Cobblemon. Install the exact pack release in Modrinth App, Prism Launcher, or CurseForge, then match its Minecraft version, loader, mods, datapacks, and resource files on every client and server. Cobblemon’s documented baseline is Minecraft 1.21.1; Bedrock Edition is not supported.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
What Modified Cobblemon Plus includes
Modified Cobblemon Plus is a community-maintained pack from ModifiedMC rather than a single, permanently fixed Cobblemon configuration. Its contents can change between releases, so the changelog for the release you intend to run is the authority for loader, Minecraft, and mod versions.

The v11 changelog describes a broad progression and automation experience around Cobblemon. It records a large quest and content system, PokéDollars as an in-game currency, Create automation additions, changes to Cobblemon progression, EMI for recipe viewing, Spark for performance monitoring, and other utility mods. The v11.2.0 entry specifically moves the pack to NeoForge 21.1.133. That value applies to that release entry; it is not a permanent requirement for every future or earlier version.
Why release matching matters
Modpacks are collections of tightly related files, not just a list of optional mods. A client can have Cobblemon installed and still fail to connect if the pack release, Minecraft version, loader, configuration, datapacks, or resource files differ. Treat the Modified Cobblemon Plus release number as the primary identifier when you download, install, update, or troubleshoot.

Compatibility requirements before you install
| Item | Documented baseline or rule | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Edition | Java Edition only | Use the Java Edition launcher; Bedrock Edition is not supported. |
| Minecraft version | Cobblemon’s installation guide identifies 1.21.1 as the latest available version at retrieval. | Check the Modified Cobblemon Plus release metadata before creating an instance. |
| Loader | Cobblemon supports Fabric and NeoForge. | Use the loader named by the specific pack release. Do not substitute a different loader because it appears newer. |
| Fabric dependencies | Recommended Fabric Loader and Fabric API | Let the launcher install the versions selected by the pack or project metadata. |
| NeoForge dependencies | Recommended NeoForge version and Kotlin for Forge | Use the NeoForge and Kotlin versions associated with the release. |
| Hardware | No tested universal RAM or CPU minimum is published for this pack. | Start with the pack defaults, observe actual tick performance, and scale resources based on player count and activity. |
The Cobblemon project recommends Fabric when choosing between supported loaders for better performance, but that general recommendation does not override a Modified Cobblemon Plus release that is packaged for NeoForge. For example, v11.2.0 documents NeoForge 21.1.133, so a v11.2.0 installation should use that loader metadata rather than converting the instance to Fabric.
Install Modified Cobblemon Plus on a client
Modrinth App, Prism Launcher, and CurseForge Launcher are the common installation paths identified by the Cobblemon installation guide. The labels differ slightly between launchers, but the safe sequence is the same: identify the release, install it as a complete pack, launch once, and only then edit settings.
1. Confirm the exact release
- Open the Modified Cobblemon Plus project page or distribution entry you intend to use.
- Record the pack version, Minecraft version, loader, and any release notes. For the documented v11.2.0 release, the changelog specifies NeoForge 21.1.133.
- Check whether the release is marked for client use, server use, or both. A client export is not automatically a complete server distribution.
- Use one release number for the entire group. Do not mix a stable client release with a beta server release unless the pack maintainers explicitly say they are compatible.
2. Install through a supported launcher
Modrinth App
- Open the Modrinth App and search for Modified Cobblemon Plus.
- Select the exact release and confirm its Minecraft and loader fields before installing.
- Choose an instance location with enough free disk space for the pack, world saves, logs, and backups.
- Allow the app to download the listed dependencies rather than adding individual Cobblemon files manually.
Prism Launcher
- Choose Add Instance, then search the Modrinth catalog or import the pack file supplied for the release.
- Review the displayed Minecraft version and loader before confirming.
- Keep the instance isolated from unrelated profiles. A separate instance prevents another pack’s mods or configurations from contaminating this installation.
- Use Prism’s instance folder only for files belonging to the selected release.
CurseForge Launcher
- Open the Minecraft section and search for the pack or import the release package.
- Verify the profile’s Minecraft version, mod loader, and pack version on the profile details screen.
- Install the complete profile. Do not add alternate versions of Cobblemon, Create, EMI, or loader components unless the release notes instruct you to do so.
3. Complete the first launch
- Start the newly installed instance once.
- Wait for the title screen and allow the game to create its instance folders, configuration files, logs, and any generated data.
- Quit from the game menu instead of terminating the process.
- Only after the clean shutdown should you edit configuration, copy a world, or prepare a server based on the instance.
This first launch is also a practical integrity check. A crash before the title screen usually indicates a wrong loader, Minecraft version, dependency, or Java-runtime selection in the launcher. Read the latest log for the first error rather than repeatedly reinstalling random mods.

Fabric and NeoForge: choosing the right loader
Cobblemon itself supports both Fabric and NeoForge. Fabric installations require the recommended Fabric Loader and Fabric API. NeoForge installations require the recommended NeoForge version and Kotlin for Forge. Those dependencies are loader-specific; a Fabric API file cannot repair a NeoForge instance, and vice versa.
When Fabric is appropriate
- The Modified Cobblemon Plus release metadata explicitly identifies Fabric.
- You are building a Cobblemon installation outside the pack and want the loader that Cobblemon’s official page recommends for better performance.
- Every additional mod in the instance is available for the same Minecraft and Fabric versions.
When NeoForge is required
- The pack release lists NeoForge as its loader. The v11.2.0 changelog lists NeoForge 21.1.133.
- A pack component or dependency is distributed only for NeoForge in that release.
- The server distribution supplied with the release is NeoForge-based.
Do not “convert” a working pack by swapping loaders. Loader conversion means replacing many dependency and configuration relationships at once, which creates a different installation rather than a supported repair. Create a new instance from the desired release instead.
Set up a Modified Cobblemon Plus server
Cobblemon states that “Cobblemon does NOT have an official server.” You therefore choose between operating your own server and using managed Minecraft server hosting. Modified Cobblemon Plus may provide a server distribution, a server-browser entry, Discord support, and a GitHub issue tracker, but those community resources do not make Cobblemon an official hosted service.

Self-hosting versus managed hosting
| Choice | Advantages | Responsibilities and trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Self-hosting | Lowest recurring cost and complete control over files, settings, backups, and update timing. | You provide a computer that stays online, networking and firewall configuration, backups, monitoring, updates, and troubleshooting. |
| Managed hosting | Provider-managed availability, control-panel tools, and simpler public access. Cobblemon documentation points readers toward Cobblemon-compatible server hosting, including providers such as BisectHosting, while the ModifiedMC changelog includes a “Need a Server?” link to Bloom. | Recurring charges, provider-specific resource limits, control-panel differences, and possible restrictions on custom files or versions. Confirm current price, region, and availability directly with the provider. |
Neither route has a universal RAM or CPU requirement established for this pack. Player count, world size, chunk-loading behavior, automation, entity counts, and simultaneous activity determine the load. Start from the supplied defaults, measure, and adjust rather than selecting hardware from a generic minimum.
1. Obtain the matching server distribution
- Download the server package for the same Modified Cobblemon Plus release installed by clients.
- Confirm its Minecraft version and loader against the release changelog. Do not use a generic Cobblemon server package as a substitute for the pack’s distribution.
- Extract it into a new server directory. Keeping the server separate from a client instance makes backups and updates easier.
- Read the included launch instructions and configuration notes before starting. Server distributions can use a supplied script or launcher-specific command, so use the files that belong to that release rather than inventing a jar filename.
2. Start once, then stop cleanly
- Run the supplied server launch script or command.
- Allow the server to generate its world, configuration, logs, and runtime directories.
- Stop it using the server console’s normal stop command after generation finishes.
- Make configuration edits only while the server is stopped. Copying or changing files while the world is writing can produce partial settings or save corruption.
3. Keep the server files together
For a pack server, “the mods folder” is not the whole installation. Preserve the matching configuration, mods, datapacks, and resource files supplied for the release. If the pack includes scripts, libraries, or generated data directories, copy those as well. A server that starts successfully can still reject clients or behave incorrectly when one of these file groups is missing.
4. Give friends a controlled connection path
For a private group, share the server address only with the intended players and maintain an allowlist if your server setup supports one. For a public server, document the pack release and loader beside the address so new players do not attempt to join with an incompatible profile. If you use managed Minecraft server hosting, follow the provider’s panel instructions for uploading the server distribution and setting the startup profile.

Make every client match the server
Every player should install the exact same pack release and loader as the server. “Almost the same” is not a compatibility strategy when mods exchange registries, recipes, entities, and network data.
- Pack version: identical release number, not merely the same major series.
- Minecraft version: identical game version.
- Loader: identical Fabric or NeoForge family and release selected by the pack.
- Mods: identical files and versions, including dependencies.
- Configuration: copy server-required configuration from the release; do not overwrite it with settings from another pack.
- Datapacks and resource files: use the same release assets, especially when recipes, quests, textures, or progression have changed.
Typical mismatch symptoms
| Symptom | Likely cause | First action |
|---|---|---|
| Launcher crashes before the title screen | Wrong Minecraft version, loader, dependency, or runtime selection. | Compare the instance metadata with the pack release and inspect the first error in the log. |
| “Incompatible mod set” or missing-mod message on join | A client and server have different mod files or loaders. | Reinstall the complete matching release instead of adding one guessed mod. |
| Recipes or quests differ | Different datapacks, configuration, or pack version. | Replace the affected files with those from the server’s release distribution. |
| Textures or interfaces are missing | Resource files were omitted or an incompatible resource pack is active. | Restore the release’s resource files and test without unrelated resource packs. |
| The server starts but players time out | Networking, firewall, provider panel, or overloaded server process. | Check server logs and network settings, then measure tick performance before changing gameplay settings. |
Reduce lag with the documented ServerCore controls
The pack’s ServerCore configuration exposes measurable controls rather than a single “low-lag” switch. The repository configuration states that autosave is 300 seconds when save-on is active and exposes mob-cap and spawn-interval settings. It also provides the commands /servercore status and /mobcaps.
Observe before changing anything
- Run
/servercore statuswhile the server is quiet and again during the busiest normal activity. - Run
/mobcapsto inspect current mob-cap usage. - Record the time, player count, dimension, and activity taking place. A farm-heavy evening and an empty test world are not comparable measurements.
- Change one setting at a time, restart only when the setting requires it, and record whether tick behavior, spawning, farms, or contraptions change.
This process matters because repository defaults are configuration values, not guaranteed optimal settings for every machine or community. A setting that helps a crowded survival base can alter a technical build’s behavior.
Best Value
Activation range
ServerCore’s activation-range section is intended to reduce entity ticking costs by limiting how far away entities remain fully active. The documented default activation range is 16 blocks, with custom ranges for categories including raiders, water animals, villagers, zombies, creepers, and other monsters.
Activation range can affect mob farms and specific technical contraptions. If a farm stops producing, villagers stop behaving as expected, or a redstone system becomes unreliable after a change, restore the previous value and retest. Do not reduce every category simultaneously; identify the category associated with the affected system.
Autosave, mob caps, and spawn intervals
When save-on is active, the documented autosave interval is 300 seconds. Autosave frequency is a durability choice as well as a performance setting: longer intervals may reduce save activity but increase the amount of progress at risk after a crash. Keep the supplied value initially, then evaluate it against your backup and uptime requirements.
Mob-cap and spawn-interval settings influence both entity load and gameplay. Use /mobcaps to determine whether a lag complaint coincides with a saturated category. Change the smallest relevant setting, observe normal play, and check farms before accepting the result.
Quick Recap
Operational checklist for a reliable server
Before opening to friends
- Confirm that server and client release numbers match.
- Confirm Minecraft and loader versions, including NeoForge 21.1.133 if you are operating the documented v11.2.0 release.
- Start and stop the server cleanly once after installation.
- Join with a test client and verify quests, recipes, currency, Cobblemon progression, and Create content.
- Run
/servercore statusand/mobcapsduring the test. - Create a restorable copy of the world and configuration before inviting players.
Before every update
- Read the new release changelog and note Minecraft, loader, mod, configuration, and world-generation changes.
- Stop the server normally.
- Back up the world, server configuration, mods, datapacks, resource files, and launch scripts.
- Install the new release in a separate directory or instance rather than overwriting the only working copy.
- Test with a copy of the world first. Check quests, recipes, Pokémon data, automation, and farms.
- Give players the new client release only after the server test succeeds.
When a performance change makes things worse
- Restore the last known working value or configuration backup.
- Check whether the problem is limited to one dimension, base, farm, or entity category.
- Use
/servercore statusand/mobcapsduring the failure, not only after it disappears. - Change one variable at a time and keep a short record of the observed result.
Key decisions in one view
