Check Activision’s live service status first, then your platform’s network status; if both appear online, test your local connection.
What the “unable to access online services” error means
It means the game could not connect to online services at that moment. It does not, by itself, show whether the issue is with Activision, your console or PC platform network, or your own internet connection. Activision’s Online Services page provides status checks and connection guidance, but it does not diagnose an individual player’s connection.

Check Activision’s Modern Warfare service status

Open Activision Online Services, select the relevant game, and refresh the page.

Look for a reported service issue or update. The status can change, so check it when the error occurs rather than relying on an earlier result.

If Activision reports an outage, wait for service to recover and check for updates. Local network changes will not resolve an upstream service outage.
Check your platform’s network
If Activision’s service appears available but the game still cannot connect, check the network for the platform you use. Activision’s status page links to services including Xbox, PlayStation Network, Battle.net, Steam, and Epic Games. A platform incident can prevent access even when Activision’s game service appears online.

If services are online, test your connection
Activision lists these basic connection checks. They may help isolate a local problem, but none is a guaranteed fix.

- Try a wired connection. Activision’s advice is: “Try using a wired connection.” An Ethernet connection can help test whether Wi-Fi is involved. It requires a compatible port on your device and router, and a cable will not fix an outage.
- Check your connection speed. This can help identify a broader connection problem, though a speed result alone does not establish the cause of the game error.
- Limit other bandwidth-heavy activity. Pause or reduce downloads, streams, or other applications using substantial bandwidth, then try connecting again.
Report a continuing “connection failed” problem
If the error persists after the relevant status checks and basic connection tests, use Activision’s outage-report flow. It asks for details such as platform, connection type, country or postal code, and internet service provider. Include the exact error wording, when it began, and which checks you have already tried so the report gives useful context.
