The right mobile time-tracking app is the one that fits how you work: it should make it easy to start and stop a timer or enter time, assign each record to the right client or project, and review or submit it later. Freelancers, teams, and field crews need different features, so compare the workflow—not just the app-store rating.
What to compare in a mobile time-tracking app
Before choosing, map the way a work entry moves from capture to reporting or billing. A timer that is quick to start is useful only if you can later connect the time to the right work and correct mistakes.

- Capture: Do you need a running timer, manual entry, bulk entry, or a timesheet?
- Organization: Can you assign time to clients, projects, and tasks, and mark it billable? Do you also need expense tracking?
- Connection: Can the app capture time without internet, and does it sync automatically once you reconnect?
- Review: Can you edit entries, submit timesheets for approval, and access reports from a phone—or do those tasks require a browser?
- Team controls: Does your workflow need approvals, shared reporting, GPS, or geofencing? Check which plan includes the feature and what permissions it requires.
- Devices: Confirm that the app supports your phone and any conveniences you rely on, such as widgets, calendar imports, or a smartwatch.
Mobile apps do not necessarily include every web feature. For example, Clockify says dashboard and team-management functions are web-only, while Harvest says account settings and subscription management require a browser and invoices cannot be created or edited in its mobile app.

How the documented options differ
The features below are described by the providers; they are not results of independent hands-on testing. They illustrate different approaches rather than establish a universal winner.

| App | Mobile capture and workflow | Offline behavior | Team, admin, and location notes | Documented plan or device detail |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Toggl Track | Its iOS page describes starting, stopping, editing, and reviewing entries, project and time entry, calendar integration, goals, and reports. It also lists Apple Watch controls, widgets, Live Activity/Dynamic Island, Pomodoro, and Siri Shortcuts. | The pricing page says data syncs automatically when online; the cited pages do not establish offline time capture. | Cross-platform synchronization is described across iOS, Android, desktop, and web. | The reviewed iOS page says the free version is free for up to three users. It says iOS shortcuts require iOS 14 or later. |
| Clockify | The mobile page describes a timer or stopwatch, manual and bulk time entry, timesheet submission for approval, reports, calendar connection, and expenses. | It says mobile time can be tracked offline and syncs automatically after reconnection. | Dashboard and team management are web-only. Its paid-features page describes capturing location when a team member starts or stops a timer in the iOS or Android app. | The reviewed mobile page says the free plan allows up to four people. Check the intended plan for any paid feature you need. |
| Harvest | The iPhone and Android apps support time and expense tracking, project/task favorites, and calendar imports from Google or Outlook.com. | Harvest says its phone apps can track time and log expenses offline, then sync when connected again. | Full account settings and subscription management are in a browser. Users cannot create or edit invoices in the mobile app; available invoice actions depend on plan and permissions. | No current user limit or price is established by the cited feature pages. |
| QuickBooks Time | Intuit says its mobile app works with iPhone, iPad, and Android phones and tablets, but not all features are available in mobile apps. | Offline behavior is not established by the cited product page. | GPS sharing is described as occurring while clocked in. Cell service is needed for GPS point accuracy, and an administrator may require Always location permission. Geofencing is listed as an Elite feature and requires setup. | The cited page does not establish a comparable current free-plan limit or price. |
Plan limits, prices, app behavior, and permissions can change. Confirm them on the provider’s current product or pricing page before committing, especially if a feature is central to your workflow.
Choose by the work you need to record
For a freelancer tracking billable work
Prioritize fast timer controls or simple manual entry, project and task assignment, billable-time reporting, and a straightforward way to correct records or export them for your next step. Toggl Track documents timer controls, entry editing, reports, calendar tools, and device conveniences. Harvest documents time and expenses, favorites, and calendar imports. If you rely on either app’s administrative or invoice functions, check whether the specific task can be completed on mobile or needs a browser.

- 4-in-1 Time Clock: Features four verification modes—facial recognition, fingerprint, RFID card and PIN—to effectively prevent buddy punching and attendance disputes. This smart attendance clock auto-calculates work hours accurately, reduces manual errors, ensures fair payroll, and lowers daily admin costs.
- Remote Control & Auto Reports: Manage the time clock via the free NGTeco App for iOS and Android (same local network required). Easily check real-time attendance, adjust shifts, and export detailed attendance records with one click.
- Flexible Shift Management: Supports flexible scheduling and night shift settings. Easily adjust shift rules to simplify HR scheduling and boost overall work efficiency.
- Plug & Play: Simple setup requires no technical knowledge or IT support and is ready to use in minutes. The built-in offline recording feature keeps capturing clock-in data even with weak or intermittent network connections. All saved data syncs automatically once the internet is restored, ensuring zero data loss at all times.
- Paperless Time Clock: No more paper time cards, ink, or regular replacement supplies required. All attendance records are securely stored digitally in the system, making payroll processing faster and simpler for your team. It creates a cleaner, greener workplace for your business.
For a team that submits timesheets
Check the full review path: workers need to record time, submit it, and learn whether it was approved or needs correction; managers need the relevant reports and team controls. Clockify documents mobile timesheet submission for approval, but says dashboard and team management are web-only. That distinction matters if managers expect to administer the whole process from a phone.
For crews working at job sites
Decide whether you need a location point tied to a clock-in/out event or a geofence that supports a defined worksite workflow. Clockify describes GPS capture at timer start and stop. QuickBooks Time describes location sharing while clocked in, with GPS accuracy dependent on cell service; its geofencing requires setup and is listed as an Elite feature. These are not interchangeable descriptions of continuous tracking.
Rank #3

- Secure, Reliable Data Protection: An internal backup system preserves every punch during unexpected power loss. Your employee records and timesheets stay fully secure and retrievable, with no reset hassle.
- Durable, Versatile Design for Any Workplace: Built with industrial-grade materials for daily durability. Its compact design installs anywhere—warehouses, retail counters, offices, schools, and healthcare facilities—for consistent performance.
Offline tracking and later synchronization
If workers may lose connectivity, verify offline capture specifically rather than assuming an app can record time because it supports online synchronization. Clockify says mobile entries made offline sync automatically after reconnection. Harvest says its iPhone and Android apps can record time and expenses offline and sync when connected again. The cited Toggl pricing page describes automatic sync when online, which does not by itself confirm offline entry.
For any app, establish a simple recovery habit: after the device is back online, confirm the entries appear in the account, check that each has the correct project or task, and resolve any duplicate or incomplete records before submitting a timesheet.
Rank #4

GPS, permissions, and privacy
Location features have different triggers and requirements, so read the exact product behavior and your organization’s settings before enabling them. Clockify says its mobile GPS feature captures a location when the team member starts or stops the timer. QuickBooks Time says location sharing occurs while the employee is clocked in; administrators may require Always location access, and cell service is necessary for GPS point accuracy.
Intuit also says GPS points used for geofencing remain on the user’s device rather than being saved on Intuit servers, and administrators cannot access employee location when workers are off the clock. Review the current product privacy and plan information, and explain to employees when location is collected and why. Do not treat a geofence, an on-clock location point, and continuous location tracking as the same feature.
