Start the stream in the app
- Open the YouTube app and sign in to the eligible channel.
- Tap Create, then Live.
- Enter the stream details. Choose visibility and audience settings, and set any available chat or other options.
- Set the phone’s orientation for your intended framing. You can also schedule a stream or choose the screen-cast option if you intend to show your phone screen rather than its camera view.
- Review the preview and settings, then tap Go live.
- When finished, end the live stream in the app. YouTube creates an archive; you can change its privacy or delete it afterward. Depending on eligibility, the app may also offer a Short highlight.
Choose portrait or landscape deliberately
YouTube describes mobile live as useful for vlogging and quick updates. Vertical streams may appear in the Shorts feed, while horizontal and vertical streams can differ in discovery and available features. Choose the format for how viewers will watch and what you need to do on stream; do not assume every feature is available in both formats.

TikTok Support says creators must be at least 18 and generally need 1,000 followers to use LIVE. The follower requirement may vary by region, and LIVE and Gifts are not available everywhere. Confirm access in your account before planning an event.

Start a TikTok LIVE
- Open TikTok and tap Add post (+).
- Choose LIVE.
- Add a title and adjust the available tools or settings. TikTok’s documented LIVE options include effects, multi-guest hosting, moderation, and other controls; what appears may depend on account and availability.
- Review the setup, then tap Go LIVE.
- Use the in-app controls to manage the session and end it when you are done.

Phone setup, framing, and stream safety
Keep the shot stable
For a fixed shot, rest the phone securely or use a holder or tripod. A handheld phone is fine when movement is part of the stream, but a stable position can make a stationary presentation easier to watch. A tripod is optional; YouTube’s mobile guide does not require extra equipment.
Plan the sound and lighting you actually need
Use a setting where your voice can be heard and your subject is visible. An external microphone or light may help in a particular setup, but compatibility depends on the phone, connector, and app; neither is a universal requirement.
