1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteChoose OLED if dark-scene detail, precise blacks, wide seating angles, or fast pixel response matter most. Choose Mini-LED if your room is bright, you prioritize high brightness, watch long stretches of content with persistent graphics, or want to consider very large screens. Those are general tendencies, not guarantees: compare exact models in your size and market, because Mini-LED has no standard definition and performance varies substantially.
How Mini-LED and OLED make an image
Mini-LED is an LCD with a finer-grained backlight
A Mini-LED TV is still an LCD television. Its backlight is divided into local-dimming zones, allowing the set to dim some areas while keeping others bright. The label has no set definition, and a larger zone count alone does not guarantee better picture quality: the dimming algorithm and the panel matter too. RTINGS explains the distinction and its limits.

OLED pixels produce their own light
Each OLED pixel emits light independently and can switch off completely. That gives OLED finer control over black areas next to bright objects than an LCD backlight can provide. WOLED and QD-OLED are different OLED approaches to producing color, so results still depend on the particular panel and TV.
Do not confuse RGB product names with Mini-LED
LG’s 2026 announcements use Micro RGB and Mini RGB for RGB LCD product lines. Those are separate, newer categories; the names should not be treated as synonyms for ordinary white-backlight Mini-LED or OLED. LG’s June 5, 2026 announcement describes those product lines.

Picture quality: where each technology has an edge
Blacks, dark scenes, and blooming
OLED has the clearer advantage when a scene combines deep darkness with small bright details, such as stars, subtitles, or lights against a black background. Because pixels can turn off individually, there is no LCD backlight to spill into neighboring dark areas. Mini-LED’s local dimming can produce strong contrast, but bright objects may still create a visible halo, often called blooming. The effect depends on the TV’s dimming behavior and the scene.
Brightness in bright rooms and HDR
Mini-LED TVs are brighter on average in RTINGS’ tested sample, which included 45 Mini-LED and OLED TVs in its comparison brightness chart using test methodology 2.01. That is a sample-level finding, not a rule that every Mini-LED outperforms every OLED. In one cited HDR hallway real-scene test, RTINGS measured 802 cd/m² for the Sony BRAVIA 9 and 1,120 cd/m² for the LG G5. These are readings for those models in that test, not technology-wide limits. See the 2025 RTINGS comparison.
For a bright room, peak brightness is only part of the decision. Check how a specific TV handles reflections and whether its image remains convincing in the lighting where you watch; a high brightness figure by itself does not establish that it will suit your room.

Color is model-specific, not a simple technology ranking
RTINGS reported BT.2020 coverage of 67.11% for the Sony BRAVIA 9, 78.50% for the LG G5, and 79.77% for the Samsung S95F in its comparison. These figures describe those tested models and that source’s color metric. They do not predict the coverage of every Mini-LED, WOLED, or QD-OLED TV.
Viewing from the side
OLED generally retains image consistency better from wide seating positions. In RTINGS’ cited comparison, OLED examples held up at wider angles than its Mini-LED example. Panel design and viewing-angle treatments can produce exceptions, so check an exact model if the room has seats spread well to either side of the screen.
Motion, gaming, and long-running static images
Pixel response is not the whole gaming picture
OLED pixels transition nearly instantaneously compared with the tested Mini-LED panels in RTINGS’ comparison, giving OLED an advantage in pixel response. That does not settle which TV is better for a particular console or PC: compare the exact set’s refresh rate, input lag, ports, and variable refresh rate (VRR) support against your equipment and games.

Persistent graphics and burn-in risk
Extended static content can eventually cause OLED burn-in. For many people who watch varied content, RTINGS says this is unlikely to become an issue; a household that leaves the same channel graphics or other fixed elements on screen for long periods should weigh the risk more carefully. Mini-LED avoids OLED-style burn-in, but it can still age and develop uniformity problems.

Screen size and current product context
Mini-LED may offer more choices at very large sizes, but availability is specific to a maker’s lineup and market. LG announced 2026 QNED evo Mini-LED models up to 115 inches, including 100-inch models. That is one manufacturer’s lineup, not evidence that Mini-LED is always cheaper or better at large sizes. LG’s claims about dimming zones, color volume, and gaming are manufacturer statements, not independent comparative test results. Read LG’s April 3, 2026 announcement.
Even within OLED, one model or screen size should not stand in for the whole category. RTINGS’ 2026 LG C6 review says the listed US variants differ in panel features; it describes the C6 as only a small brightness improvement over the C5, while the G6 is brighter and handles reflections better. These are model-specific findings, not a general forecast for OLED TVs. See the RTINGS LG C6 review.
Which should you choose?
| Your priority | Starting point | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Deep blacks and dark-room movies | OLED | Look for dark-scene performance and any blooming in Mini-LED alternatives. |
| Bright-room viewing or bright HDR content | Mini-LED, on average | Compare brightness and reflection handling on the exact models in your room conditions. |
| Seats spread across a wide area | OLED, generally | Check off-axis image retention for the specific panel and TV. |
| Fast-moving games or content | OLED for pixel response | Also check refresh rate, input lag, ports, and VRR against your console or PC. |
| Hours of persistent channel graphics or other static images | Mini-LED may be a better fit | Weigh OLED burn-in risk against Mini-LED’s separate aging and uniformity risks. |
| Very large screen | Compare available Mini-LED and OLED models | Availability, price, and performance depend on size, market, and exact model. |
How to compare the TVs you can actually buy
- Start with your room and seating. Note how bright the room gets, where reflections fall, and how far seats are from the center line.
- Match the screen size and market. Compare the size variants sold where you live; panel features and availability can differ by variant and region.
- Check the relevant picture tests. For your viewing habits, focus on dark-scene blooming, sustained and peak brightness in the SDR or HDR content you watch, reflection handling, and off-axis consistency.
- Check gaming requirements separately. Confirm the TV’s refresh rate, input lag, ports, and VRR support for your console or PC; pixel response alone is not a complete gaming specification.
- Factor in content habits and ownership terms. Consider whether you routinely leave static graphics on screen, then compare current local prices and warranty coverage for the exact models.
- Do not rank Mini-LED sets by zone count alone. Treat zone count as one specification; reviews of the exact model can reveal how its dimming algorithm behaves in real scenes.
There is no universal price winner: prices vary by market, screen size, and model. A sensible choice comes from matching the exact TV’s tested strengths and limitations to your room and use—not from the technology label alone.
