Look for it in cold or icy biomes, especially Ice Caves. It drops Rotten Flesh and Ice Balls, and fights with freezing melee attacks or thrown Ice Balls. These are preview features, so their behavior may change before a full release.
Where do Frostbites spawn?
Mojang says Frostbites spawn in cold or icy biomes. Both the Java snapshot and Bedrock preview specifically name Ice Caves as a place to find them. Ice Caves generate beneath colder biomes in the Overworld, so exploring below a cold region is a more targeted approach than searching an unspecified surface area.

What does a Frostbite drop?
The listed drops are Rotten Flesh and Ice Balls. Mojang’s notes do not specify the number of items or the chance of receiving either drop, so those details should not be assumed from the published preview information.

How does the Frostbite attack?
The Frostbite switches between melee and ranged combat based on the target’s distance and whether it has Ice Balls. At close range it uses melee attacks that apply the Freezing effect; at range it throws Ice Balls.
Bedrock Preview 26.60.29 says an Ice Ball deals 4 damage to entities, with damage scaling down as its velocity decreases, and causes knockback. That figure is specific to the Bedrock preview notes, not a guarantee for other versions or a later release.

How does Powder Snow affect Frostbites?
Frostbites can stand on Powder Snow and are immune to freezing. They are not slowed by the Freezing effect or by Powder Snow. Zombies and Husks that are inside Powder Snow transform into Frostbites.
A Frostbite that stays underwater long enough transforms into a Zombie. Mojang’s notes do not state how long the transformation takes.

Which Minecraft versions include Frostbites?
The available documentation is for preview builds: Java 26.4 Snapshot 3, published October 6, 2026, and Bedrock Preview 26.60.29, published September 30, 2026. The Bedrock changelog presents the features as experimental content. The Minecraft Java Team describes the mob as “a zombie variant that can throw Ice Balls.” Check the changelog for your edition before relying on these mechanics in another build, because preview behavior can change.
