Choose a Milwaukee charger by checking four things: whether it accepts M12, M18, or both; how many batteries it charges at the same time; its charging tier; and where it gets power or mounts. “Six types” is a useful way to sort the options, but Milwaukee does not define an official set of exactly six mutually exclusive charger types. A charger can be rapid, multi-bay, simultaneous, cross-platform, and designed for a particular storage setup at once.
Start with the battery platform
M12 and M18 are distinct battery systems. A charger that accepts one platform does not necessarily accept the other, so check the exact model number and its compatibility statement—not just the Milwaukee name or the word “charger.”

For example, Milwaukee says its M18 & M12 Rapid Charger (48-59-1808) accepts both M12 and M18 batteries. By contrast, Milwaukee explicitly says the M18 Dual Bay Simultaneous Super Charger (48-59-1815) does not charge M12 packs. “Super Charger” and “dual bay” do not imply cross-platform compatibility.
For the four-bay model, Milwaukee answers yes to whether the M18 & M12 Four Bay Simultaneous Super Charger can charge existing M18 and M12 batteries. Treat compatibility as a model-specific fact, not a rule based on a charger’s speed label.
#1 Best Overall
- Product will either come in original packaging that is in less than perfect shape and has been opened to inspect contents or will come in non-retail packaging (brown/white box or white/clear bag). Charges pack up to 40% faster, reducing downtime and maximizing productivity.
- The charger accepts all M18 and M12 batteries, providing an upgrade for both systems.
- The charger indicates when the battery reaches an 80% charge.
- Single unit simplicity for quick charge of all M12 and M18 battery packs.
- Sequential charging: automatically charges the second inserted pack once the first pack is fully charged.
Six useful charger buckets—not six official types
The following buckets help organize the choices. They overlap: special-purpose chargers can also be rapid or multi-bay, and “rapid” alone says nothing about how many packs receive power at once.
1. Standard single-platform chargers
A standard charger such as the M12 Lithium-ion Battery Charger (48-59-2401) is a straightforward option when you need to charge one platform. Confirm the platform marking and exact model before buying.
Rank #2
- DUAL CHARGING: This charger can tackle both 18 and 12 volt Milwaukee batteries, holding one of each in the unit at the same time.
- SEQUENTIAL CHARGING: Do not worry about managing charge cycles. This will take care of your batteries one at a time, devoting full charging power to each one.
- BATTERY COMMUNICATION: The charger has a chip that communicates with its batteries, keeping track of how much they have charged. It saves you power by reducing the amount of charge produced as the battery reaches full charge.
- FAST ACTING: Compact batteries can be fully charged in as little as 30 minutes, while extended life batteries can be charged in as little as a single hour.
- INDICATOR LIGHTS let you know whether a battery is charging, fully charged, and whether it needs maintenance or not.
2. Cross-platform chargers
Some models accept both battery systems. The 48-59-1808 is one example; its product page identifies it as an M18 and M12 rapid charger. Cross-platform support is a compatibility feature, not a guarantee that every charger will charge both types.
3. Rapid chargers
“Rapid” describes a charging tier, not simultaneous capacity. Milwaukee says the 48-59-1808 can charge up to 40% faster than a standard charger, but it charges packs sequentially: it works on one battery at a time rather than charging several at once. The speed claim does not mean every battery reaches full charge in a fixed time.

- Supports 100-240V AC input, 10.8V-18V 3.0A DC Output. Can charge 12V and 18V batteries in less than an hour for jobsite efficiency.
- Indicator lights that show the status as batteries are charged and maintained. The built-in high-end protection board provides overcharge, overcurrent and high voltage protection for your mobile devices, ensuring the stability of the charging current.
- This Charger comply with FCC RoHS and CE security testing standards. Contact us: any question please click the "Ask a question" on our storefront or in "YOUR ORDER" options click the "contact seller".
4. Multi-bay rapid stations
The M18 & M12 Rapid Charge Station (48-59-1807) accepts up to three M18 and three M12 packs and charges three packs simultaneously. Its total supported capacity and the number charging at once are different figures: six packs can be accommodated, while three receive charge simultaneously.
5. Super chargers
“Super Charger” models vary in platform support and bay count. The 48-59-1818 is a four-bay M18/M12 model that charges four batteries simultaneously and is PACKOUT-compatible. The 48-59-1815 is a two-bay simultaneous M18 model and does not charge M12 batteries.

- M18 six pack sequential charger
- The product is easy to use and easy to handle
- The product is highly durable
Milwaukee’s room-temperature estimates for its Super Charger provide examples of how much battery choice matters: an M18 REDLITHIUM FORGE XC6.0 fully charged in 25 minutes, reaching 80% capacity in 15 minutes; an M18 HIGH OUTPUT HD12.0 in 60 minutes; an M18 HIGH OUTPUT XC8.0 in 45 minutes; and an M18 REDLITHIUM XC5.0 in 60 minutes. These are manufacturer estimates, and Milwaukee says actual results may vary. Charging time depends on the battery pack, charger, and surroundings; the page does not give a publication year for these estimates. See Milwaukee’s M18 batteries and chargers guidance for current details.

Some chargers are best understood by where they fit or how they get power. The M18 & M12 Vehicle Charger (48-59-1810) runs from a vehicle’s 12V or 24V DC outlet and charges packs sequentially. It suits a vehicle-based setup rather than a standard AC bench location.

The Gangbox Rapid Charger (48-59-1804) is designed for steel jobsite storage and offers magnetic and cleat mounting. It has four bays: two M18-only bays and two that support M18 and M12. It charges two batteries simultaneously, then moves to the next pair. That makes it both a rapid, multi-bay charger and a jobsite-storage option.

Choose by the job you need it to do
- Match your packs. Check the exact charger model’s product page for M12, M18, or both. Do not infer support from “rapid,” “dual bay,” or “super.”
- Decide how many batteries need power at the same time. Count simultaneous charging positions, not only physical bays or the maximum number of packs the charger can hold.
- Compare speed for your battery model. Use charging estimates for the specific pack you own, and account for Milwaukee’s warning that battery type, charger, and surroundings affect results.
- Match the power source and placement. Choose a vehicle DC model if you need to charge from a vehicle outlet; consider the gangbox design for steel jobsite storage or PACKOUT compatibility for the four-bay Super Charger.
- Check workflow extras on the current product page. Pass-through outlets, USB-C charging, task lighting, portability, and mounting can matter as much as the charging tier, but their availability varies by model.
Why the labels cause confusion
Charger names mix several independent attributes. “M18 & M12” identifies supported platforms; “rapid” or “super” signals a charging tier; “dual bay” and “four bay” describe capacity; “simultaneous” describes charging behavior; “vehicle,” “gangbox,” and “PACKOUT-compatible” point to power or placement. One model may carry several of these labels, while another with a similar name may differ on platform support or charging sequence.
