If npm cannot find the Midnight umbrella wallet SDK under its old name, update @midnight-ntwrk/wallet-sdk to @midnightntwrk/wallet-sdk in your dependency manifest and imports. The current Midnight setup guide spells this umbrella package without a hyphen in its scope. Do not remove the hyphen from every Midnight package: separate Midnight.js and modular wallet packages still use @midnight-ntwrk.
Which package name should you use?
For the current umbrella wallet SDK, use @midnightntwrk/wallet-sdk. The Midnight Documentation setup guide calls it a single barrel package that re-exports the wallet sub-packages and shows this dependency example:

"@midnightntwrk/wallet-sdk": "1.2.0"
The version 1.2.0 is the value in that guide’s example, not a permanent recommendation. The guide directs developers to check the support matrix when choosing or changing versions. See the wallet setup guide and the compatibility matrix for current guidance.
What to change in your project
- Update the manifest entry. In
package.json, replace the exact old umbrella dependency key@midnight-ntwrk/wallet-sdkwith@midnightntwrk/wallet-sdk. Choose a version consistent with the current compatibility guidance rather than copying an old pin. - Update imports from that package. Change imports that name the umbrella package. For example:
import { WalletFacade, ShieldedWallet, DustWallet } from '@midnightntwrk/wallet-sdk'; - Reinstall dependencies. Run
npm installfrom the project directory after editing the manifest. - Check the project. Run its existing typecheck, build, and tests. These checks help surface unresolved imports or incompatible package versions; the documentation does not guarantee that a rename alone will make every project build.
Which Midnight package names should stay as they are?
This is a package-specific spelling change, not a namespace-wide replacement. The setup guide keeps the hyphenated scope on separate Midnight.js dependencies, including:

The compatibility matrix likewise lists modular wallet packages under the hyphenated scope, including @midnight-ntwrk/wallet-sdk-facade, @midnight-ntwrk/wallet-sdk-hd, and @midnight-ntwrk/wallet-sdk-shielded. Keep those package names unchanged unless their own current documentation says otherwise. A broad search-and-replace could turn valid dependencies into invalid names.
Why do older examples show a different spelling?
The official Wallet SDK 1.0.0 release notes dated 23 April 2026 used the umbrella name @midnight-ntwrk/wallet-sdk, while the current setup guide uses @midnightntwrk/wallet-sdk. That establishes a change in the documented spelling over time, but it does not establish a universal migration rule for every package in the Midnight ecosystem. Check the current documentation for each dependency rather than inferring its scope from the umbrella package.

A separate Midnight DApp Connector API release note describes that project publishing under @midnightntwrk while mirroring the legacy scope as a transitional alias. That is connector-specific information; it does not prove that the old wallet SDK name remains aliased or supported.

Is this the same as migrating from the older wallet packages?
No. Replacing the scope on the umbrella package is different from moving an application built around the older monolithic @midnight-ntwrk/wallet or @midnight-ntwrk/wallet-api packages to the modular SDK. The SDK repository describes wallet-sdk as a barrel package that re-exports wallet components, including shielded, unshielded, and DUST wallets, along with key derivation, address formatting, clients, and supporting abstractions. If your project uses those older packages or imports modular wallet-sdk-* components directly, follow the applicable migration guidance and compatibility matrix; a one-line scope edit may not cover the architectural changes. See the wallet SDK repository and the example-counter migration guide.

How should you handle versions?
The setup guide’s example pairs wallet SDK 1.2.0 with selected Midnight.js dependencies at 4.1.1. The compatibility matrix, identified as updated on 2026-04-07, presents a different package/version baseline. Those are dated examples, not values to combine into a new version set. Use the live matrix to select compatible versions for your project, and recheck it when dependencies change.
