How Microsoft To Do works with Outlook
To Do’s most distinctive documented advantage is its connection to Microsoft’s task and email ecosystem. A flagged Outlook message can appear as a task named after the email subject. Open the task to see an email preview, then rename it, set a due date or reminder, mark it important, or add it to My Day. Microsoft says these tasks are stored on Exchange Online and appear in both To Do and Outlook. Details are in Microsoft’s setup and planning guidance.

My Day begins as a daily list. Suggestions can help bring tasks in from other lists; unfinished items remain in the Tasks list for later. Microsoft also documents task steps, importance, notes, tags, categories, attachments, due dates, reminders, and moving tasks between lists. See Microsoft’s task-management guidance.

Accounts and supported platforms
Microsoft lists To Do for Android, iOS, Mac, Windows 10, and the web. Its setup guidance says that To Do syncs through Microsoft Tasks API, stores data in Exchange, and integrates with Outlook Tasks. For work or school accounts, the organization must enable a To Do license, and an Exchange Online mailbox is required for task sync and storage. Check Microsoft’s setup guidance for current account requirements.
When To Do is not the right Microsoft tool
Microsoft describes To Do as suited to individual tasks, daily lists, and sharing lists. For visually organizing and scheduling teamwork, Microsoft points to Planner; the two can be used together, including by viewing assigned tasks in To Do. Microsoft’s comparison of To Do and Planner explains their different roles.

Free for core personal task lists
Any.do says its Free plan covers core personal tasks and lists. This makes it a reasonable starting point if you want to try its basic planning workflow before paying for advanced personal features or collaboration.
Premium for more advanced personal planning
The plan guide lists advanced recurring reminders, location reminders, Focus Mode, unlimited color tags, unlimited notes and files for personal tasks, AI-generated lists and subtasks, a WhatsApp personal bot, and Zapier integrations among Premium features. Consider it when those particular conveniences matter to your routine, rather than assuming they are necessary for ordinary task lists.
Family for shared household work
Family is built around a shared Family Space, shared grocery boards, and up to four members and four shared boards. Each member’s private Personal Space remains distinct from shared household work, according to Any.do’s plan guide.

Email and calendar ecosystem
If turning Outlook messages into tasks is central to your workflow, To Do has the directly documented Outlook and Exchange connection. Any.do’s plan guide lists calendar integration across plans, so check whether its supported calendar connections meet your needs. Microsoft’s Outlook details and Any.do’s plan guide describe the respective integrations.
Reminder depth
Basic daily organization and lists point toward To Do’s individual-task focus. If you specifically want advanced recurring or location-based reminders, Any.do Premium lists those in its paid features. Match the feature to an actual routine—such as a reminder tied to a place—rather than upgrading for a capability you may not use.
